Parks supporters from throughout Texas will be in Austin on Wednesday, Jan 17, to meet with their legislators to urge support for state parks. The day will include presentation of a bill to provide adequate funding for parks at 1:30 pm by the sponsors and co-sponsors of the bill and the chair of the House Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Committee, Harvey Hilderbran.

A bus will leave Houston from 3015 Richmond at 8 am. Roundtrip cost of the bus is $25 per rider; it will return by 7 pm.

Legislative training will be provided on the bus by Joe Turner, director of the Houston Parks and Recreations Department.

For more information or to reserve your place, contact Diane Schenke at the Park People, (713) 942-7275 or e-mail <dschenke@parkpeople.org>. People who are unable to come to Austin on are being asked to visit the Houston office of their state senator or representative that same Wednesday.

(Side note: Diane Schenke was the Executive Director of The Grand Parkway Association. After that, she was with The Nature Conservancy. Now she's with The Park People. Welcome back to Houston, Diane!)
