Just like an American, AHHH HAAA!, but we are splitting hairs here. Would you say that the majority of folks claiming to be from the Congo are of the Black race or are they just Congans ?

Not to take this thread too off-topic, but your mention of Congans got me thinking...

If someone who is from Pakistan is referred to as a Pakistani, why is someone who is from Afghanistan not referred to as an Afghanistani? Or someone from Uzbekistan not called a Uzbekistani?

Agreed! This is a valid argument, one brought up by many. However, this is a well run forum for intelligent conversation and debate. Your offensive remarks and racial slurs are not welcome here. You would get much further creating a benficial discussion by excluding your predjuces. I suggest you edit your thread or we ask the moderators to remove this thread altogether.

Being "illegal" isn't a race. Neither is being Hispanic actually, it's an Ethnicity. And poco dago said much more than proclaiming to be against illegals. The Raid comment is out of line.

There have been members on here who advocated nuking entire populations (N. Korea) with no regard to women and children. We've had someone seriously suggest that leaving a sick or dying illegal on the street to die would be a good warning to those that are here illegally. Recently a member dismisses a grown man preying on teens as just a "petty sex scandal."

Now we have a guy who uses "dago" in his name, calls people "wetbacks", wants Raid to defend the border and clearly has no idea what the difference is between ethnicity and race.

So asking the moderator to remove this relatively harmless thread compared to the posts I mentioned above is ridiculous. We should all defend the right of any of us to be as callous and ignorant as we choose.

QUOTE(TJones @ Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 @ 11:16am)

What race are the Mexican people akinned to then ProHouston ?

Mostly Caucasian and Negro. There are only 3 scientifically recognized races but there are thousands of ethnicities. I have a good friend from Cuba. He is Hispanic and a Negro. I have many more who are Hispanic and Caucasian. I haven't met any Mongol Hispanics yet.

QUOTE(Mark F. Barnes @ Tuesday, October 10th, 2006 @ 1:17pm)

This one I got to hear explained? LOL

See above.

______________________________________________________

People many times confuse race with ethnicity. I think a good idea would be to just remove the term "race" when talking about illegals. It's one less divisive term that is wholly unnecessary to the topic.

There you go again, quoting/paraphrasing me without providing any context... -_-

He didn't misquote or misparaphrase me too badly. It's just that nmain has this tendency to bring up over and over again (in many different threads) tiny parts of larger posts of mine that by themselves mean either nothing or something else completely if not placed in the proper context.

It always annoys me, so I'm always calling him out on it.

Funny TJ I got the Email faster than you could delete the post

TJones has just posted a reply to a topic that you have subscribed to titled "Mexican Anchor Babies".

----------------------------------------------------------------------

What race of people do you think the term "La Raza!" refers to ? I just need clarification.

From what I am reading AGAIN. There are 4 main races and about 30 sub-group races.

I found this very interesting.

Collegeboard.com's National Hispanic Recognition Program:

To qualify for this program, the student must be at least one-quarter Hispanic, according to the following definition: A person of Mexican-American, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish cultures or origins. For purposes of this program, this does not include persons from Brazil or Portuguese culture/origin, nor persons from the Philippines. Hispanic is an ethnic category not a racial category and Hispanics may be of any race.

OOOOOOOOOOOOO, you caught me. That's ok Mark, the question is a wide open topic, subject to debate, because it has been misinterpreted by many. I know the real meaning of "La Raza". So I felt the question was unfounded.

So I've got a four-pronged approach to addressing the issues.

1) De-incentivize the immigrants from bringing families. Cut off access to all schooling, health care, and any other social services to those that cannot prove citizenship or a work visa. If they're dying of a gunshot wound, let them...that's a very good deterrent to coming here illegally.

Better?

He asked for that!!!! ROTFLMAO

Usually it's our own words that come back to bite us on the butt. Been there and done that myself. -_-

And my points were clarified in the course of the ensuing discussion, so thank you for providing the link as well.

I'm not advocating that anyone be denied healthcare or basic human rights.

Actually that's exactly what you advocated before you twisted yourself into a pretzel in an attempt to "clarify". Fortunatly most here have some ability to know B.S. when we smell it. I'm just calling "out on it." [your words-not mine]

Go back and read the whole of my contributions on that thread. A couple of comments are not sufficient to summarize the many pages that I'd written...much less make a single key point.

I STILL don't get how we place the blame on one group...What about the WHITE, BLACK and other races that have "free" babies and clog up the hospitals? Especially the ones that REFUSE to work? Just cause you were born here doesn't mean _I_ should foot the bill. We never had hispanic's coming into my store returning stolen ____... Wetback, or not what are you crying about? Uncle sam's not giving you any money back or cutting taxes.(i can't think of anything usefull i've gotten from uncle sam...) Hell they'll buy more $800 toilet seats.

Because 'Paki' is a derogatory description of someone from Pakistan. I'm not sure why, but the British probably had something to do with it.

oh no! it's a wikipedia kind of day...

don't click the link if you're offended by cooked dog with the tail as garnish:

evidently they are fatty.

I've had dog. It was prepared differently than the picture you show. It was a lot like oxtail stew, but with a tomato base.

It was a lot like eating the worst quality meat you've ever had smothered in things to mask its taste.

Perhaps dog prepared well is very good, but the hotel where I had it was kind of a dive. Though it was considered quite nice for that little corner of the Third World.

In some Asian countries where it's illegal to eat dog they have organized bus tours to neighboring countries for dog feasts. Kind of like the way tour companies organize busloads of elderly for trips to the casino.

My main concern is that we give far too much consideration to the feeling, rights and health of those that aren't even citizens, yet we don't have the funds to provide proper medical services, housing and support for those that served and were wounded in the UNITED STATES military. OR even to those that paid taxes for decades, yet find themselves on the street or living in a car.

Not a citizen? You have no rights or entitlements in this country.

We do have the funds. The White House and Congress have different priorities and have decided to spend them in other ways. Huge tax cuts for the very wealthy during war-time. The war itself. Corporate welfare. Don't think the funds aren't available. They just aren't being spent on the things you describe.

My wife worked at the Ben Taub for a semester at the baby ward, and she said it was 95% illegals giving birth there, for free. When she talked to some of the mothers, they all said, that they all know about the free status, and they all know how to work the system.

We my friends are the laughing stock of the world regarding this illegal immigration.

Seems to me, that of the top issues in poliltics are tied to illegals.

1. health care

2. crime

3. high taxes

According to the Harris County Hospital District, 70% of births at Ben Taub and LBJ are to non-citizens, not 95%. Additionally, the hospitals ask ALL patients for proof of Harris County residency. It is primarily during BILLING that the non-resident status is discovered. This tells us two things...that the healthcare is NOT free, and that no one is admitting to hospital staff that they know how to work the system.

The fact that foreign nationals do not pay their bills does not make the services free, any more than not paying for your rental car makes the car free. Additionally, the Harris County Hospital District has another big and growing problem with so-called "free" health care. Residents of conservative suburban counties, such as Montgomery, Fort Bend, Brazoria and Liberty, are coming to Houston for their health care, because these outlying counties severely restrict their health services, leaving uninsured, low and middle class non-Harris residents with no other option. These non-Harris County American citizens ALSO know how to "work the system". Like the foreign nationals, I doubt they are talking about it at the hospital either.

Like the illegal immigrant problem, health care for low income and uninsured Americans is a huge problem. Like the illegal immigrant problem, the US government, by refusing to address the issue, dumps the problem on local governments. Congress is not saving us money by refusing to address the issue. They are merely forcing our county commissioners to deal with it. We cannot refuse to deliver an infant of a mother in labor. We cannot refuse to treat the injured. Tough talk about refusing health care is empty rhetoric, because we ARE providing the heath care...we are just doing it in the most inefficient manner, because tough guys in Congress will not do what they were elected to do.
