IronTiger
Naming rights can get tricky, A&M heavily reconstructed Olsen Field and renamed "Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park", except that because the Olsen Field is not found on the exterior of the stadium now (can only be seen if going down Wellborn, and only then only one way), the Olsen family was unhappy that the family name wasn't prominently displayed anymore. We'll see what happens.

We'll see what happens. Difference here is that this is not a reconstruction of Robertson Stadium. They completely demolished it. This is a brand new stadium. Also, not once in the past few years have I read an article where they referred to the new stadium as "New Robertson".

illusionescape
Some photos of the intersection with the Red Line downtown that I took today. IMG_1806.jpg IMG_1805.jpg IMG_1804.jpg Interesting. Looks like the new Southeast Line is going to be connected directly to the Red Line instead of just intersecting it. Am I seeing that correctly? So essentially a train going south from UH Downtown Station could switch onto the tracks going down the Southeast Line instead of down to Fannin South Station. ricco67
I don't think it will be used for routing but rather so they can move cars from one line to another as they are needed.
Houston19514
^ I think that is probably correct, Ricco. At one time, the plan was for either the southeast or east end line (I forget which; they both run on the same east-west tracks in that segment) would turn and go to what was then planned to be the intermodal center and is now just the Burnett Station. The other of those two lines would continue west to the Theater District. I'm pretty sure that changed when the Intermodal was elminated and they added the Central Station Main for transfers to the red line. ricco67
Here is the latest, I figured this was probably going to be the only weekend I'd be able to do this run without construction interfering with the shoot. I'm "Eh" on whether I like the camcorder, but I might give it another shot in a few months. Aside from the raindrops interfering with it, do you think it was of a decent quality? http://youtu.be/w4sbxTeCn1c

ricco67
Here is the latest. It should be live in about 30 minutes or so, okay...maybe an hour...... Currently working on the East Line video. Edited August 28, 2014 by ricco67

august948
I was by uh recenty that station looks nice Yep. Around UH it looks (to the untrained eye) ready to go. Stations are in, concrete and track laid, wires up.
mfastx
Thanks for the video, ricco. There's a lot of choppiness and pixels in the video for me, is that something wrong on my end? EDIT: looks fine now, nevermind. Edited August 28, 2014 by mfastx
ricco67
wow. This video sucks. That's what I get for turning off the steadycam option.
mfastx
Haha it's a little shaky but the effort is much appreciated ricco! Edited August 29, 2014 by mfastx
Specwriter
I also really appreciate your real-time videos, ricco. I notice you are really good at timing the traffic lights too. Some people dash from one red light to the next abusing their cars more than necessary. Maybe they should take the train.
ricco67
Haha it's a little shaky but the effort is much appreciated ricco! Well the actual video is no where near as shakey and it's driving me a bit crazy. Last time I used the camera, I used it to try some time lapse which required me to turn off the steadycam option. I prepared for a LITTLE shakiness, but wow!
nativehoustonion
Thanks for the videos. I'm a little confused the East Line Downtown goes westbound on Capitol and Purple Line goes eastbound on Rusk? So from Downtown if you want to take the East Line you take the Purple Line and transfer at the BBVA Stadium? The bad thing is cars will share the track that is not good! mollusk
Both Green and Purple go east on Rusk and west on Capitol through downtown, and then take their separate ways at BBVA. There will be green or purple squares on the car end destination board, just as there is a red square displayed on those currently running. The destination signs will also state where they are going - that's why such signs exist. It's not rocket science. Shared tracking exists on other systems, and people seem to deal with it just fine. Likewise, there's a mix of cars and light rail in the Medical Center here: and in other cities throughout the world without the outbreak of utter mayhem.
nativehoustonion
Thanks I like your imput. I got confused reading the Downtown Houston Development map. It shows Capitol westbound and Rusk eastbound.
samagon
Thanks for the videos. I'm a little confused the East Line Downtown goes westbound on Capitol and Purple Line goes eastbound on Rusk? So from Downtown if you want to take the East Line you take the Purple Line and transfer at the BBVA Stadium? The bad thing is cars will share the track that is not good! They'll both use the same track downtown, I imagine it will be noted at the station whether it's purple or green train that is coming to the station. kind of like when a bus stop shares with other buses. the signage says the bus numbers that will stop there, and the bus number is prominent on the bus. In places where they have sophisticated systems announcing the rail, they will have LED boards that show the next N number of trains to arrive at that station/stop, which line they belong to, and approximately how long before they arrive. As soon as a train comes/goes that one bumps off the list and the list gets updated.
Slick Vik
I think the rail lane will be separated not with a barrier but with white like how much of the red line is now
mollusk
It looks like it will be a white stripe downtown, not even armadillos like in other places - which makes sense, what with turning traffic, parking garage entrances/exits, etc. Other cities manage it without massive carnage; shoot, once upon a time, so did we... samagon
But people drive nutty in Houston these days. Like they own the road and everyone else is in their way. It's not a 'these days' kind of thing, people have been driving like they own the roads in Houston since the city was founded over 200 years ago. To be fair though, I mean, technically we all own the road, so why not drive like you own it?
mollusk
Houstonians have most likely been "out there" drivers for as long as there have been cars. Before we had various Merges of Death, we had things like this:
