(former Lord & Taylor / Macy's) Former Lord & Taylor space currently remodeling to include Kona Grill, The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Del Frisco's Double Eagle Steakhouse, Border's Books, and a new J.Crew store, among more new stores. The expansion said to open before the 2006 Holidays. Since the expansion is going right in Galleria II in the "luxury corridor" I will imagen new upscale stores opening there. As for the Macy's space I have no clue, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a Bloomingdale's or more stores anything but a cinema or highrise apartments. From what I heard is a two story 22,000-24,000 sq.ft store.Speaking of apartments, is that still part of future Galleria plans?I hope not they should built more stores and restaurants that will somehow connect to Galleria II either that or a Bloomingdale's. bachanon Posted May 7, 2006 Share Posted May 7, 2006 (edited) the galleria had a mall cinema and it didn't survive due to a bad location (imho). and.........apartments at the galleria would not be some three story ghetto. it would be a mid/hi rise condo sort of development that created a "lifestyle" type of environment that does not distract from the "upscale" concept of the galleria (to use your words). .........."upscale mall like the Galleria" sounds so 80's. this word, "upscale", lends itself to scatterbrained neophytes who drink at the shallow fountain of credit card companies and lounge in the bright shining light of "me-ism". i know this because it was once me. no offense, jj18, but "Ermenegildo Zegna"? nice ads, but sheesh! also, i, a former mall rat, did not spend days at the galleria because of the lackluster, i'll positioned theater. i was at the galleria in order to show off the overpriced clothing i purchased there that i truly could not afford. i do miss those marshall field's sales. i believe i purchased my first armani suit there. nothing fits like an armani my friend, nothing. i digress. any additions to the galleria will most likely follow the current trend of the "lifestyle", mixed-use concept similar to what we see happening at memorial city. it will enhance the galleria experience and not detract from it, "upscale" in perception or not. Second, L.A. and New York have much better looking women, with an emphasis on L.A. Think about one thing, most of the most beautiful women (and men for that matter), if they know that this is a major quality in them, will seek out places where they can gain from this--whether it be to become actors, models, or entertainers, the place to do it is L.A. or NYC. If any of you have been to L.A., it is craiwling with lovelies like you have never seen. Houston doesn't compare--and I love Houston and know there is good looking people, but please, most are overwieght and don't dress well at all. For whatever its worth, a girl looks hotter in a pair of Seven Jeans and a Cavalli top than in Levi's and a Gap shirt. Statistically speaking, Houston has more discounted clothing stores than L.A. or New York, mainly because of demand. In short, people in L.A. and NYC dress more fashionably and sophisticatedly than Houston (which I love), but does not mean that they dress hotter, which is another way to go. In time, Houston will be more fashion and aesthetically forward, but it is still young and coming into its own. Well I know all the hottest super Model/Porn Stars are in NYC & LA, but I'm talking about real people. You know, the everyday kind. And NYC & LA soak up all the beautiful people this city has to offer, usually at the first hint of 'sexiness'. Nyc & La also have alot more wealth, which is why they dress "more fashionably and sophisiticatedly"... or the fact they are Fashion headquarters. And I agree with the men thing... I'm sorry but Houston men are some of the ugliest. (atleast the gay ones). BTW, anyone ever have one of those Houston Fire Fighter calendars? > Edit*: I'd also like the throw out the fact Houston has had such a significant increase of local magazines (fashion/ etc.). And Jeans Couture has really grown (M2M, Lab 5, etc.). All their stores are a little different, and carry different stuff.
