Atlanta

Recommended Posts

I tried the link and I got an error message that said "too many connections".

Update: It worked the second time.

Trae, if you live in Katy, how do you know so much about Atlanta?

I like the colors.

I would join, but I would not have anything relevant to say, and I barely have anything relevant to say in here!

Gosh Trae, it looks like your the only one on the forum.

Well, it is brand new, I am sure if he hits up Skyscrapercity, more people would join.

I am thinking if anyone from HAIF has anything to say about Atlanta, it would get better Houstonian feedback in here, rather than in the Atlanta page, that is just my 2 cents.

But I am sure the city of Atlanta will embrace the forum. :)

Which first post, the first post I see in here is Redscare, are you also Redscare?

Or are you talking about the first post in the Atlanta page that Trae is an admin in?

I may eventually register just to help Trae get the ball rolling but I don't have much to say right now. I came away from Atlanta on my last trip disillusioned on some levels (okay, many levels) but impressed on some others. I'd rather wait until I've been back there and have visited for more than two days to offer something concrete.

I will say that as much as seeing the continued decline of southern and western Atlanta shocked me, I was very impressed and moved by the site of Midtown and DT Atlanta from Atlantic Station. A very impressive site, indeed. Makes you really appreciate the Atlanta of today from that perspective.

But then, unfortunately, you have what you have on Simpson Street or Bankhead Hwy or Sylvan Road.

Not at all inspiring.

Ok, last question, I don't want to pull Trae's posting off topic, but are you being sarcastic?

And if you are Redscare, why do you need to have (2) login names? <_<

What do you mean "both"?

Both as in the (2) separate identities you, as a single person, portray. I wanted to show my respect to both personalities. :P

Here is the link to Trae's Atlanta site now that this post is clearly derailed.

Sorry Trae.

What was that one called and what eventually happened to it?

And lastly how are there some many people in Houston that come to this site and know about Atlanta?

Because they live in BOTH metro areas. Atlanta's western metro has overlapped Houston's eastern metro, so some people are actually residents of both cities.

Check out Atlanta's own forum. The Official Atlanta Forums. I would really like it if some of you joined it. To help with activity. Also, don't forget about editor's Agorphoria. Thanks.

"Official" forums? Did you get a proclaimation from the mayor?

No...but I don't want anything bad to come out of the same, so I took "official" off.

Citykid is in two architecture forums? What's the point, I would rather just stick with one forum.

I'm still here. And will probably always be here as long as I live and as long as HAIF is still on the internet. Yall don't have to worry about me living, I have been on here for years. Even before the new HAIF.

I just don't post as much as I use to.

Hey Trae, did you make that Atlanta site? What inspired you? Are you trying to do as the editor does from Chicago to Houston? So you would be in Houston running the Atlanta fourm?

I gotta go talk to you all later!

Is that true, we have a non-Houstonian (or a transplant) running this site, I never knew

Great! Let's all go over there and talk about how much better Houston is than Atlanta.

Indeed. But seriously, I was planning on starting something my own and getting a domain for a mere $24 (after I get the urbanok domain) but I've been waiting for someone in the footsteps of ATL CityScape to come along. I even made the banner...

Oh and Trae, do you have a hosting bill for the Atlanta site?

And also do you have to pay 7k/year like Editor does?

Oh and if you do, do you brag about it like he does? :P Sorry editor.

I think once his traffic really picks up, he will run into the lag issues that this site experienced last spring.

He has no bill. He doesn't have his own server. He's on a "free" shared hosting site. Well, free to him. The host appears to be recouping some money through advertisements, like HAIF does.

I don't know about the specific one he's on, but with most of them once he grows large enough they're going to either make him start paying by the month or kick him out. Anyone who's lived past the age of 12 knows there is no free lunch.

Really, so once the bandwidth gets to be too much, the hosting company cracks down on you with an ultimatum. Sounds shady; they offer you a free service to start a forum, and then once your forum picks up and you start enjoying the website you created, the nail you with charges or threaten to shut you down. It is like they entice you with free opportunities to get you in, and once they have you, you are at their mercy.

So that brings me to this question. What's in it for you? Don't you get a tax break, monetary reimbursement, or payment for being the host to a site with alot of members. Unless i had a good paying job, i'd be damned if i paid 7k a year for hosting a site just for grins. Sorry HAIFERs, i ain't tryin' to step on no toes but I'M just curious!

And no editor, i'm not suggesting anything BTW. I'm appreciate this forum just how it is. ;)
