The Rock's new movie ("The Game Plan" or something like that) has a Houston flyover in its full trailer.

The director, Andy Fickman, is from Houston. He also proposed an idea to Disney for a movie about a swim team in Houston, based on a real-life experience of his. If it happens, it would be shot entirely here according to the Chronicle.

"The Game Plan" was a big hit over the weekend.

Here's the article I was talking about if anyone's interested:

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/ent/5169915.html

He's also sold Disney a personal project called Pool Rats, based on a summer he spent coaching a swim team in Houston. Fickman promises "a Meatballs tone" and to shoot it here entirely.

"I was a lifeguard and ran the pool at Memorial Club Townhouses," he said. "I want the spirit of Houston, with no Georgia accents by way of Hollywood. I want it to be authentic."

With Witch Mountain first, Pool Rats will have to wait. But Fickman can smell the barbecue already.

On Yahoo's homepage today in the featured section, an image of, excuse me for not knowing the new name, enron tower II and the skybridge was shown with the title of the article reading:

Most-lucrative real estate

Find the neighborhoods in America which have experienced the greatest price appreciation.

I was looking for a song when I came across this radio station in North Carolina that has Downtown Houston in the background at the top of the screen.

http://102jamz.com/pages/286762.php?

LOL. Kind of ironic too, since "Majic 102.1" here in Houston used to be referred to as "102 Jamz" or "Majic 102 Jamz" before 97.9 came along.

Well... haha Its kind of embarassing how I stumbled across this. Its, shall we say, an Adult Movie Studio.

I'm not sure what the other half of the skyline belongs to, but I see 1 Shell, Wells Fargo, and Heritage Plaza.

I laughed so hard. It made my sheetrocking day more tolerable.

Maybe you saw it while passing by a room that HAPPENED to be showing this.

In the newly cancelled "King of the Hill", there's been a few episodes that bring the characters to a cartoon Houston. The skylines didn't look quite right, but I think in one episode, they got the color of the police cars right.

Being sober at the moment, I am having a hard time picturing what this may have looked like.

Not sober, and can't quite picture it. So don't feel so bad.

unrelated........... Where the hell was I when The Economist endorsed Obama? OMFG! I guess I shouldn't have let my subscription lapse.

So I have fallen in love with TLC, and all their mysterious programming (Woman with the World's Largest legs... Bless her heart).

Anyways, I was watching "The World's Fattest Man" or something, and he lives in Monterrey. But He use to live in Dallas, and of all 15 clips or so they showed of Dallas, only about 3 were Dallas, all the rest were Houston!

This is what happens when you're not allowed to flog the interns.

Just saw another one -- The executive chef from Brennan's on a commercial for the Art Institutes culinary program. Looks like it's a tie-in sponsorship for that Food Network program where they take people out of jail and teach them to cook.

I recorded a program on PBS last night. It was a concert of music producer David Foster featuring artists who've recorded his music. There was a nod to Houston, not by name, but Boz Scaggs came out on stage to sing that song "Love Look What You've Done To Me" from "Urban Cowboy" and the Houston skyline was visible on the stage's giant screen throughout the song.

I found a video:

There is a series on UK television called "The Ascent of Money". Tonight there was a segment on Enron that had a lot of footage taken around Houston. Downtown of course, but also along West Gray and in River Oaks (to illustrate the wealthy lifestyles of Enron executives).

Wow, they finally canceled it? There were though a few episodes I liked. I remember when that show came on back when I was in Middle School... somewhere around 13 years ago.

Yea, I remember one when they have to go to a Hospital in Houston... we have so many hospitals, all with names, but this one was simply called "Houston Hospital".

Maybe they didn't want to play favorites with the hospitals... or maybe the writers were just too lazy to do any research on Houston at all! Or maybe I'm just overreacting  ?

Houston is kinda like Rodney Dangerfield at times... We get nooo respect.

Well, when they have Dale in his innertube on the river in Arlen fall asleep and suddenly wake up in the Houston Ship Channel, the writers can probably be forgiven for naming the hospital 'Houston Hospital'. :)

Stupid Sam Houston race park two guys race-peeing at the urinals made the funniest commercials tv show. Yes, my parents have the remote. But I brought my wireless router to their house to keep myself entertained. If America's Funniest Home Videos or Who Wants to be a Millionaire comes on I'm gonna find some errands to run.

Our local newspaper is running an Ad for small business owners to celebrate the # of years they have been in business, I am pretty sure this has something to do with the SBA. Anyway, the background for the Ad is the old Enron Towers. Very cool pic but I don't see what this has to do with small business. I expect this Ad to appear around the country with no credit to Houston.

Houston skyline being destroyed by giraffes in this recent Saturday Night Live skit (at 0:57):

http://www.nbc.com/Saturday_Night_Live/vid...iraffes/810987/

Saw it and immediately thought about this thread ^_^

Saw it too! You beat me to it!

Downtown was shown for seconds, but hilarious nonetheless. Look out for those giant giraffes peeking over your shoulders while in traffic!

First of all l must admit I dwell in the higher realms of geekdom and watch old car commercials on youtube. But look at the beginning of this ad for the exciting 1979 Datsun 200SX. Is that Houston ca 1978 in the background when the Datsun is on the roller coaster? Could this have been shot at Astroworld? It looks Houston-ish.

Am watching Nostradamus 2012 on History Channel. At the part when they're talking about storms like Katrina and Ike, they had a shot of Houston, namely the Williams Tower.

EDIT: And again... Downtown Houston Skyline towards the end the end of the program. So nice be to associated with the end of the world, huh.

Just watched Smallville Season 7 on blu-ray with my fiancee. In a scene near the very end of the season finale, Downtown is featured pretty prominently. You can easily see Wells Fargo, Chase, part of Bank of America, and Heritage Tower. If you'll remember sometime last year, Heritage Tower's lights were on in the shape of a seven. I guess they did that b/c they were included in season 7's finale.

I spotted that a couple nights ago when I was trying to eat dinner in what apparently is a crappy time slot. It was hilarious. Some kind of so-called Nostradomus expert was trying to pin a particular quatrain as applying to the current financial crisis, but it just didn't really apply. In between the talking head trying to explain that "lightning strikes the temple" is supposed to mean that stock prices decline (at the temple-like NYSE building), the video shots cycled between images of corinthian architecture in Manhattan, a shot of downtown Houston as viewed from the East, and (I want to say) an image of basalt-encrusted lava flows. I just about fell off the sofa laughing.

The History Channel must really like Houston. Tonight on the 11:00pm episode of Modern Marvels, they did a story on how the Houston Chronicle runs both a conventional paper and electronic newspaper. They had people speculating about how one day, the traditional newspaper will be obselete, and even showed some behind the scenes views of the Chron.
