editor
I had two Houston sightings today. First, on Apple's web site there's an area which talks about how all the big cell phone companies use Quicktime for their streaming video. Well, in the big banner at the top of the page, does the image in the cell phone look familiar? It should. It's Smith Street, looking past 1500 to the Wedge International building. Second sighting -- I didn't have my camera with me for this one -- but there are giant posters at many of the Chicago Transit Authority bus shelters advertising some Jeep. The Jeep in question is parked in Eleanor Tinsley Park with the Houston skyline featured VERY prominantly in the ad. I'll try to take a snap some time this week and post it here. And here's an earlier sighting that I forgot to post -- In an April issue of Crain's Chicago Business, the Houston CVB took out a half-page full color ad with a nice picture of the skyline trying to convince Chicago businesses to move to Houston. I scanned it before I threw it away, but seem to have lost the file.
KimberlySayWhat
That's very observant. I don't even pay attention to ads, much less the image being used.

I ment to tall yall about that also but never got around to it. I haven't seen the commercial lately.
brijonmang
I just saw the Jeep ad yesterday in a Car & Driver magazine. I was going to actually say something about it...but you beat me to it. I've seen a couple of car commercials using our city as a backdrop as well. Most notably the Lexus SUV (I forget which one) driving through downtown and the former Enron complex and going over some chunks of torn up road. I guess you CAN go offroad in the city. skwatra
i saw the jeep ad in Maxim as well. i was shocked when i didn't see "Houston area Jeep dealer" somewhere on the ad. pretty cool, except the people running around look superimposed. Montrose1100
I may have mentioned this before, but I've seen Houston 3 times on accident on one day in Koln (Cologne), Germany. The first time, there was a photoshopped picture of American Skyscrapers in this tiny indoor mall, around this central food court. Houston's skyline took up half of it, with the Bank of America Center in the middle. (And the biggest/tallest of all the other buildings). The second time was a picture of the Houston skyline in the window of a traveling agency. The third was in the huge Saturn Records store, It was on the wall. I didn't have my camera. GovernorAggie
I noticed Houston in the Verizon Business commercials with Kiefer Sutherland's voiceover. They quickly flyover the night skyline and you can see the top of Wells Fargo and Reliant (or is it Centerpoint?).
citykid09
I was watching Jimmy Kimmel Live Last night and the star of the new movie Accepted had on a T-Shirt in some pictures that he showed that said "Theres No Place Like Houston"I thought it was cool and I want one now. It's kind of like New York's I Heart New York T-shirts. There was a big bull head between the rest of the words and Houston. That should be Houstons new slogan. I really like it. Its really like saying there is no place like home, but with Houston in there.

DaTrain
I 4get the name of car brand but I saw a car commercial where an SUV was driven by a stuntman thru the streets of Downtown Houston, and I bet U saw it too. It was going over Smith Street under reconstruction, and I knew this cuz I saw the ped ring linking Fourteen Hundred Smith and Fifteen Hundred Louisiana. Does anybody remember the car name brand in the commercial?

SamHouston
There's a USDOT add out there about drunk driving...it starts something like, "All around the country police are coming out" and cuts to a shot of a policeman (not HPD, since he is wearing all dark blue/black) circling checkpoints on a dry erase map. You really need tivo to catch it, since it goes by pretty quickly, but if you pause it, you can clearly see Beltway 8 and the 610 loop. Funny they picked us. Houstonian in Iraq
i saw the jeep ad in Maxim as well. i was shocked when i didn't see "Houston area Jeep dealer" somewhere on the ad. pretty cool, except the people running around look superimposed.I'm really late. I saw that add a cuople weeks ago in Maxim aswell. I don't really look at ads either, but it just hit me "Hey, that's Houston!" I let a buddy take the mag to the porta-john and that was the last I saw of it, if not I would post the ad. Was expecting something about "Houston area Jeep dealer" too. The park is Sam Houston park in the foreground if I'm not mistaken. Tinsley park is a bit further down Allen Parkway. I waited to long! Also, the new Nationwide Macy's Commercial has part of Houston's downtown in the background. The buildings are all white. I thought that was neat. It's contaminated now.Don't really care much for Maxim, didn't really care if I got it back(read all there was to read in it). The only reason I got it was because it was the only thing that wasn't a porn, workout or gun magazine in the mini PX. But if I did have it I would of posted the picture here for those who haven't seen it.Oh Well Edited September 7, 2006 by Houstonian in Iraq

I wasn't really paying attention and then I recognized the Houston buildings in white and remembered seeing something on here about it. So I rewound it on my DVR and yep, it was us. The commercial is playing the song "Dancing in the Street" and people are dancing through various cities morping into one another. When it gets to Houston they menion something about the Lone Star State and of course there are some goobers line dancing with cowboy hats, but whatever.
