Talbot
they're only a rookie team. ricco67
Empiro, If you're going to be critical, at least put some thought behind why you are critical? Personally, I don't like football, I only watch it when nothing else is on, but at least I can say "The running baks didn't do their job" and make a comment on a specific play, as opposed to just making a blanket statement. That's like saying a certain users' posts are stupid because they don't reflect what he is saying in a proper literary form. Did that make sense?Ricco
The Great Hizzy!
Here's a specific criticism:We changed a blocking scheme from a traditional straight-on style to what's called a zone blocking scheme. The problem is, in order to be a good zone blocking team, you need to have quick, agile offensive linemen. We don't have that. We were better at straight-on blocking. As a result, we're not running the ball as well.

houstonsemipro
Excuse me, but I'm tired of people saying the Texans are a rookie team. They are not a rookie team. They just like the rest of the 31 teams in the NFL, so that is no excuse. They have good players on that team losing all their games like this. I don't blame it on the players, I blame it on the coaches. The Texans have a good enough team this year to go to the playoffs, no excuse. They just have to think about next season, and get rid of some players, as well as coaches.

HoustoniaNYC
David Carr needs to sack up and fast. Maybe Roethelisburger (sp) in Putzburgh will light a fire under his buttocks. He's still making rookie mistakes, although put him behind the Pat's or Steeler's line and I think we see a different man,But what do I know, I only get to see 1 or 2 games including TV/radio/internet up here.
houstonsemipro
It's nopt David Carr's fault, it's the lineman they the ones not blocking for the man. They watch tapes of the Clots throughout the week, and they know what the Clots is going to do. The defense is another issue, the secondary is wreak. Aaron Glen cornerback, he's old 12 years in pro. He is slow reacting toward the ball carrier, and he's not making big plays like an pro bowler should be, so I say he needs to retired and let somebody young and could get to the ball carrier on time. Roethelisburger quaterback for the Steelers really don't show me nothing, he's a rookie, yes, and he's doing good cause he already have vetern team leading him on, DUH! Roethelisburger step into a gold mine that's all as a rookie. If David Carr had a vetern team like the Steelers, David would be doing the same thing as Roethelisburger taking them to the playoffs. Now take Roethelisburger and let him be the quaterback for the Texans, I bet he do the same crap David Carr is doing.

I think so.<{POST_SNAPBACK}>I think they can if they get a pass rush and the cornerbacks are as good as they potentially can be this year then they have a shot at taking out the Colts.Hopefully also they open up the offense a bit more. Jerome Mathis could be interesting as he is a burner that can contribute right away on special teams and potentially could help the offense a lot.Oh yeah, and the RB position needs to stay healthy and deliver. And don't forget the OL needs to protect. Wow, I just raised a ton of question marks, but I still believe!
houstonsemipro
To help ease your pain, jp. The Texans brought in vertern tackle from the Saints, Victor Riley, and now they brought in a 2-day visit for a look-see free agent tackle L.J. houstonsemipro
Did y'all see the preseason game against Denver tonight? Did y'all like what y'all seen? Cause to tell you the turth they look like last year's team to me. I wasn't impress by the offense, the defense was okay, still needs work. They kept the first team in there for only a series. What? Only one series? That's right. David Carr drove the team down the field at the 1 year line, and couldn't go in. They tried 4 downs, still couldn't go in. Ummm. Is this going to be a repeat of last year? If so, you could say bye bye to Dom Capers and the gang, cause their gone.My prediction for the Texans this season, 7-9 or 8-8.
brijonmang
relax its preseason...i agree though i think dom capers needs to be a little more aggressive...that 4 down series on the one yard line was pathetic...i think during the regular season we will mix it up more than running four straight HB dives...get a full back in or something...i think our team is getting better still and we should definitely be on the upside of .500 this year
houstonsemipro
Fans are more into preseason then ever now, as I've read it two or three months ago on NFL.com. You have to take it personality, cause what they do in the preseason going to follow in the regular season.I really don't know about the playoffs, its a toss up. I would say next year when they get rid off Dom Capers, and get a better coach to take his spot, cause Caper's I think he's not cuttin it.Go get Dallas Coach, Bill somebody. Now that's a coach. If he was here, the Texans would be a playoffs contenders, and maybe Super Bowl. That's a damn good coach they got at Dallas.
HoustonianInColorado
I think the Texans will do well this year. Preseason is just a practice game to let the coaches see the contenders and to get the team used to working in a game environment. I moved from Houston before the Oilers left, but I do follow the Texans, and if I ever get to move back to Houston I will go to some games if I can. Living in Colorado, I can tell you, the Broncos are a religion here, and have earned the reputation as a good team. Yesterday's game was fun to watch, but has no bearing on the regular season. brijonmang
whats the matter semipro? your not going to comment when we win one? the first team offense looked good this week with their opening drive TD and all the defenses really dug in and shut down the raiders the second half...and kris brown looked good as ever w/ his four FG's two of which were over 45 yards
houstonsemipro
Oh I'm sorry. I was so busy that I couldn't comment on the Texans first preseason win. I'm proud of my Texans. The first team drove down the field, and finally punches in for the touchdown, great thinking by David Carr. One problem I have is the defense. The defense kinda looked sloppy. The Raiders run the ball down their throats, and the secondary not to good either. They still need work on their defense, but for the offense, they're coming along pretty will.We shall see the first season game against Bufflao.
brijonmang
I thought the defense held it together pretty well especially in the second half with all the guys playin for a spot...offensively i like our running backs...morency looks like a great grab at this point but the WR position is still a very hard decision at this point...only johnson and bradford are locks and we have a lot of talent vying for the spot...hopefully whoever makes the cut can really step up and help take some attention off johnson
houstonsemipro
Yes, Morency is a good backup runningback. He rushed 90 yards against the Raiders.
The Great Hizzy!
The Texans don't have a lot of good offensive line depth but I'm hoping that moving Riley to the starting LT spot will prove to be a better move for the offense long term. Wand just doesn't have the footwork to play the outside. He might make it as a guard, though. Also, the secondary didn't look good Saturday night either, but it was mostly Demarcus Faggins, who was beat on two touchdown passes, one of which he should've intercepted. The first team defense didn't rush the passer very well either, but I think some of that is because the zone we tried to play wasn't very effective and give Collins a lot of quick spots to hit.Offensively, I really like the way our first team has looked all pre-season, and I agree that Morency is good looking back. He may make Jonathan Wells expendable (either he or Hollings).Sloan Thomas looked good at WR also. I hope he can make the team but I doubt it; a lot of depth at the 2-4 spots.
houstonsemipro
Davis and Morency really runs the same. Wells, on the other hand, he's more like a power back for a 3rd down and 1 type of back.
