Garden Ridge to take over shuttered Great Indoors store

After two and a half years of sitting idle, the former Great Indoors location in the Willowbrook area has been leased by Garden Ridge.

The Houston-based home decor retailer has signed a 15-year lease on the 134,465-square-foot building, which is located in the northwest quadrant of Gessner and Highway 249.

Garden Ridge is renovating the space and will open it as a new store later this year.

Dean Lane and Matt Reed of New Quest Properties represented Sears, while Darin Gosda of Betz Cos. represented Garden Ridge in lease negotiations.

The Great Indoors, a home decor concept owned by Chicago-based Sears Holdings Corp. (NasdaqNM:SHLD), closed the Willowbrook location in late 2003. An additional location at Interstate 10 and Beltway 8 remains open.

Garden Ridge currently operates four Houston-area locations.

The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2004 as a result of unfavorable lease agreements and emerged from reorganization last May.
