20 Tiel Way is open this weekend. It looks like it will probably be gone soon.

How odd that you post on this house...I just drove by and looked in the windows of this place about 4 hrs ago. This house has potential for the right person with the right money. But we will just have to accept the fact that in 12 months there will probably be a 5,000 square foot house with a terra cotta roof in this spot.

P.S. this is one of the best streets in Houston. You get a little bit of an LA feeling with the houses hanging off of the hills and all, and in my opinion some of Houson's greatest Usonian style homes. Troon is another great street is just across Kirby, though there are only 1 or 2 modern houses.

Cool. I like the second one(the interior is a tad too dated for me, though, but, I really like the deck), and I really dig the last one(which has a very simple and contemporary interior, and a neat courtyard).

That 3rd one in Piney Point Village was actually open during the RDA tour. It was right down the street from a house that was on the tour, but I didn't think we'd have enough time to see it, though I guess we would have. I never actually made it to any of these except for the one on Tiel Way. The Azalea Trail had us busy enough as it was that weekend...

I'll post more open houses as time permits.

Jason

Thanks Willowisp.

We can spice-up the Azalea Trail with these mods.

That looks like a great example of "barely post-war" housing. I really like all the windows on the corners of the house. It has a little Bauhaus flavor to it, but not enough that it really sticks out as being ultramoderne.

The one I put up there on Kuhlman has my interest. It has saltillo tile and it's from 1958. Could it be a Jenkins? He did some work in Memorial, but I don't know for sure if he did this house...

Jason

I am going to hold that little mod in Idylwood open Sunday 2 to 4. 6615 Wildwood Way.

We went to this open house and I'd be surprised to find out it's NOT by Jenkins, though the realtor didn't know. If you're out there with a mil and a half it's a great house, but it needs enough work that it's probably going to be demolished. It was screaming "save me" to me, but I don't have the money.

The house seemed to echo his other houses, such as the porch area outside of the living room (not screened though) and the saltillo tile. It also had floating cabinets in the bathrooms, and one of the bathrooms had floor to ceiling windows (but it was missing the usual privacy screen outside, maybe it was brick and had fallen or something) so there were blinds on those windows! The kitchen was small, along the lines of his house on Cliffwood. I would say that was the house it reminded me most of. It was also a bit confusing on first glance, like maybe some walls were knocked down at some point so it was hard to see what room was what.

The realtor says she'll get back to me on the architect, and I told her I'd let everyone know on here that it's a house worth seeing.

It's pretty obscene what the land is going for over there. That's not even on the bayou. But it's a gorgeous big lot full of trees.

There was another flat roof house that looked vacant just a few streets down. I should have noted the street, but I think it was Shartle Circle. It wasn't for sale, but there were those stakes in the ground that made it look like something was going to happen. Like "don't dig here" kind of stakes. Just down the street from it was another flat roof house that looked amazing. Had I the time, I should have knocked on the door there...

Maybe Michael Brichford knows these houses?

I think I am going to have this one open soon, probably the 9th. I have to confirm it & I will let everyone know. It is one to see. Very original & a very cool house!

The open house on this one is on for the 9th, 2 to 5. If you've never checked out the 'hood, this would be a good opportunity. I think there will be a couple of other houses open down there Sunday too.
