5101 Almeda Rd sits on an 0.3682 acre lot in the Third Ward and Museum Park neighborhoods.

The property is adjacent to the 2111 Southmore Blvd parcel. Located on the Southmore parcel is an Exxon gas station. Both are owned by Panjwani Properties, Ltd.

The parcel behind 5101 Almeda Rd is 5105 Almeda Rd.

5101 Almeda was home to Alfreda's Soul Food restaurant for several decades. However, the restaurant moved recently. It's now located at 4530 Griggs Rd.

I don't know what's moving into the building. I also don't know what changes may be in store.

There is a plan review pending for renovations. The plan review was submitted by VCS Architects. According to the permit, Wall Street Almeda, LLC is the listed occupant.

The owners of the gas station own both parcels.

Wall Street Almeda, LLC is likely the new tenant leasing the space. It's why I classified them as the possible occupant and not the owner of the property.

The restaurant opening soon at 5101 Almeda St is Wall Street Almeda. The building was previously home to Alfreda's Soul Food.

I'm not sure of Wall Street Almeda's concept. Their Instagram is vague on details. I think this restaurant is from the same person who initially opened Par'lay / Parlay at 1901 Taft St.

Earlier this week, Wall Street Almeda shared a photo of the restaurant's exterior on social media.

Wall Street Almeda is located at 5101 Almeda St. The building was last occupied by Alfreda's Soul Food.

According to Wall Street Almeda's social, the restaurant will serve Southern fare.

Interesting that they immediately had another lease lined up for location, while other places on the street are a little slower to fill up.

Good for them.

I don't know whether or not the landlord had a new tenant in place prior to Alfreda's relocation. Still, I think with the property being on the corner of Southmore and Almeda, this wasn't going to sit vacant for long. Bar 5105 is next door and the lounge Faces (or whatever it's called now) is across the street. Not to mention, Turkey Leg Hut a few blocks down. It was inevitable the building would have a new leasee that quickly.

Wall Street seems like an odd name for a southern cooking restaurant.

The name of the restaurant isn't odd considering that stretch of road along the corridor is known as Houston's Black Wall Street. Naming the restaurant Wall Street Almeda pays homage to the area and its nickname.

Aaahhh,  I thought there must be some back story.  Nevertheless, I think it would be good idea to add "southern cooking" to their signage.   Hmmmm.... I just googled "Houston Black Wall Street" and the Chronicle tells us:  "Sunnyside is a historically Black neighborhood in south Houston, set up for Black people in 1912 by a white councilman as the other segregated neighborhoods in the city center grew crowded. The city of Houston didn’t annex it until 1956. In the 1960s, Sunnyside had so many Black-owned businesses that residents called a stretch of Cullen Boulevard “Black Wall Street.” By the end of the 1980s, most of the businesses had shuttered.https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Sunnyside-fights-against-covid-inequality-houston-15571653.php

Elsewhere, I found this:  "However, one of the older yet ironically lesser-known Black Wall Street neighborhoods is Freedmen’s Town in Houston, Texas."  https://www.fodors.com/world/north-america/usa/texas/houston-and-galveston/places/houston/experiences/news/houston-has-more-black-history-than-you-may-think
