City Of Houston To Conduct Full-Scale Active Threat Exercise At Houston Public Works Building at 611 Walker

S.gif

The City of Houston will conduct a full-scale active threat exercise on

Wednesday, December 21, 2022 at the Bob Lanier Public Works Building located at 611 Walker Street in Downtown Houston. Planning and Development offices, and the entire 611 Walker building will be closed to the public during business hours. Staff will continue to be accessible via phone and email. Please call 832-393-6600 for assistance.

The goal is to practice preparedness, communications, and City of Houston employee safety in the event of an active threat. The exercise will allow first responders and city employees to experience a simulated real-world active shooter event. It will be controlled and conducted based on FEMA’s Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program (HSEEP) principles.

The community should be prepared for a large emergency response and several road closures on the day of the event. The following Downtown Houston streets will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic beginning at 9 a.m.

  • Smith between Rusk & McKinney
  • Louisiana between Rusk & McKinney
  • Walker between Milam & Bagby
