Brooklyn173
There was some activity at the long abandoned commercial structure at 2020 Travis. Workers just said that they were "cleaning it out", but they were taking down all the ceiling light fixture and pretty much everything inside. Anyone know what might be going on here?

004n063
Yikes...shouldn't this lot have walkable places exemption from parking minima?
Texasota
There are no parking minimums here, but that lot already exists. They're just cleaning up the building.

loon
Yeah was just going to post, looks like another group bought it out from Williamsburg or whoever it was... Looks like the wheatpasters gonna have to find a new wall to do their thing on :) (full disco i live next door, happy to see literally anything happen to this place)
loon
They're actually doing some work now.. looks like maybe some Facade work as well as inside. lots more cars on hand as well. 6
loon
They've removed all the old metal facade now and are doing some wood repair work. Also look a front door! unseen in a decade (at least!). Looks like they're putting wood paneling up maybe? not positive. couldn't see inside very well.
Brooklyn173
Thanks for peeking inside. I took this for the Gray Street facade (and the long covered windows).

loon
Really going at it today.. got the signs up for the Design and Contractors invovled. Which, as just a hobbyist that likes watching these things and learning.. I'll ask the pros.. at what point does it cost more than its worth just just demo it and start over? Is the shell that expensive? i mean it looks like they are really taking it down to nothing.
Sanjorade
Looks like the design group focuses on a lot of retail and restaurants. Guessing this will be some kind of dining experience. Hoping for something fast casual. With so much parking, it would do well.

The Block at Midtown is a retail center at 2020 Travis St. It's currently being renovated. What Now Houston published this dreadful article yesterday about Wei's Kitchen at 2020 Travis St. Zheng (Wei Kitchen's owner Wei Zheng), remains an elusive figure in the gastronomic community, keeping the details of Wei’s Kitchen currently under wraps as he was unavailable for comment as of this publishing. With no website or further information available, the anticipation and mystery surrounding the eatery have only served to stoke the flames of curiosity. Some speculation is that Wei’s Kitchen will offer a fusion of traditional and contemporary flavors, or perhaps specialize in a specific regional cuisine. Given the diverse and rich culinary heritage that Houston enjoys, Wei’s Kitchen could very well be a new nexus for culinary innovation. The location is strategically positioned in a bustling area, making it an ideal spot for attracting a diverse clientele eager to sample the dish creations from Zheng. https://whatnowhou.com/new-concept-set-for-inner-loop-river-oaks-submarket/ First off, I highly doubt Wei's Kitchen is a business many Houstonians are anticipating. That's not to say it won't be a fine restaurant. It probably will be. Moreover, this eatery is not going to be "a new nexus for culinary innovation." My guess is the author has a minimum word count that they have to adhere to. Hence, the reason for the article's fluff and needless padding. Still, What Now Houston notes the following regarding a possible opening timeline: According to a comp report reviewed by What Now Houston, the Lease Term is set for June 2024, leading the belief that permitting and construction will soon be underway to turn the space into something fitting for Wei’s Kitchen sometime in 2024.
