Corpus Christi Development

Very elegant :) While I like the look of old truss bridges this is simply a case where the older bridge could not function the way it use too and need to be replaced and if it is going to be replaced then why not make a real impact visually.

Yeah I like the old bridge myself, but this replacement will be very appropriate for the location. Corpus Christi has a beautiful waterfront, and this adds to the overall visual appeal.

The new bridge project has a website at the aptly named harborbridgeproject.com.

I will definitely miss the old bridge. Much like the new one, it is one of the defining elements of the skyline and bayfront, but the lighting at night has been great in the recent past with the LED displays that have been customized for special events and holidays. Part of me actually misses the "classic" bulb lighting sprinkled across the structure of the bridge but regardless of the past, this new one looks to be more than a fitting replacement.

Before the old one goes, I'm determined to get down there and take part in one of their regular Sunday morning Bridge Walks. I've always wanted to take photos from up there...

I wonder if they will tackle the companion building just north in time.

I remember they redid the 6 points intersection a few years back and got rid of the bus transfer station. Not sure what that did to service, but the intersection itself looks great. Hopefully those improvements start expanding past the intersection in all directions.

"The foundation footing – literally the support structure of the tower that will hold the cables and the bridge deck that people will be driving on – are currently going up.

This important step in the bridge’s construction comes almost six months after work was stopped on the project’s main span because of construction flaws found by a third-party inspector hired by TxDOT.

And since TxDOT and Flatiron Dragados agreed to re-start work in October, overlapping construction has helped the project move forward, said TxDOT District Engineer Valente Olivarez Jr."

City Council takes big step towards financing American Bank Center expansion (kristv.com)

"In January, Corpus Christi City Council received the results to a feasibility and economic study about expanding American Bank Center and adding a 600 room hotel. On Tuesday, the council took a step forward in finding a way to fund that using state money.

City council has approved a resolution to support state financing for the expansion and renovation of a convention center at the American Bank Center. How they will do that will be with a relatively new tool."

https://www.caller.com/story/news/local/2023/03/07/txdot-harbor-bridge-developer-resolve-4-of-5-design-disputes/69978778007/

"Four of the five primary design concerns resulting in a partial pause in construction on the new Harbor Bridge last summer have been resolved, Texas Department of Transportation officials announced.

The update came during a presentation by Flatiron/Dragados, the project developer, to the Corpus Christi City Council on Tuesday, marking progress on the prolonged bridge project, which is likely to exceed its nearly $1 billion budget.

The singular outstanding dispute concerns the proposed design of certain joint pier segments, which connect to the bridge’s main span segments and allow the bridge to expand and shrink in accordance with outside temperatures.

Certain joint pier segments in the proposed design, according to an independent analysis, could erroneously allow for a significant uplift in certain wind conditions, resulting in the elongation of the stays and redistribution of the load."

"The final dispute concerned the proposed design of certain joint pier segments, which connect to the bridge’s main span segments and allow the bridge to expand and shrink in accordance with outside temperatures. To resolve this, Flatiron/Dragados updated the design of the last segments on both ends of the cable-stayed bridge, added rebar to the segments and modified the external bearings on the transition pier cap."

"Allison told 3NEWS that there have been a fair share of milestones, including what will be coming in May.

"We'll be running the first stay cable on the cable-stayed bridge. Running the first stay cable is very significant," she said. "If you look at images of the completed bridge, you'll see the cables coming off of the upper towers. So we'll be running the first stay cable on the north pylon in May."

One of the other milestones Allison presented before county commissioners Wednesday was a new turnaround at Nueces Bay Boulevard. "

https://godowntowncc.com/downtown-projects/

" Five new projects, including a luxury bar and new hotel, have been approved and will bring over $35 million in development to Downtown Corpus Christi, according to the Downtown Management District (DMD)."

...

Here are the projects that were approved:

  • 605 Elite, located at 605 Mesquite Street, will be a new luxury bar and restaurant with a cocktail garden. This building has sat vacant for decades and was originally built in the 1930s. The developer is excited to bring another fine dining and luxury cocktail option to Downtown.
  • Gallery 41, located at 100 N Shoreline Blvd, will be a new restaurant in the Art Center. This restaurant will also have an outdoor patio for guests to have a view of the water. The developers are the owners of CC Turnkey Enterprises LLC, a well-established catering company in Corpus Christi.
  • Lazy Beach Brewing, located at 312 N Chaparral Street, will be an additional location for Lazy Beach Brewing. This taproom will provide new selections and original beers served at the original location in the Southside.
  • OK Hifi Parklet & Awning, located at 415 Peoples Street, is going to be a new parklet that will reside in two parking spots located in front of the future bar, OK Hifi Bar and Hybrid Records. The awning will provide better shade for those spending time on Peoples Street. OK Hifi will be a new Japanese whiskey bar and lounge with music from PRODUCE Sound Studio.
  • Homewood Suites, located 301-309 N Chaparral Street, is a new construction build of a 126-room hotel. This area has had vacancies since 2020 and has not seen much activity in the last few years. The ground level will have the entrance to the lobby of the hotel and 3 leasable spaces available for retail/restaurants. This hotel will have a rooftop bar with an additional patio, Top Golf Swing Suites, and other hotel amenities (gym, breakfast buffet, and bar)

9c4b2ede-52a9-4ca7-bc6c-73e9e1d0b60d-050

"ROBSTOWN — Tesla on Monday marked the start of construction for its proposed lithium refinery in South Texas, furthering its bid for more control over the supply chain for its growing fleet of electric vehicles.

Arriving behind the wheel of a Tesla Cybertruck, Tesla CEO Elon Musk shared a stage with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and other officials in a closed event to celebrate the occasion. As they spoke, more than a dozen pieces of heavy machinery hollered and beeped behind them, preparing the stretch of rural Nueces County land for the $375 million facility.

The facility, which Tesla has said would be the first of its kind in North America, will package and ship battery-grade lithium hydroxide, a key component for the batteries in Tesla's products. While it will not eliminate Tesla’s reliance on other sources, the facility will work toward addressing a future “fundamental choke point” in the advancement of electric vehicles, Musk said."
