Is James Coney Island still in business?  The one near city centre has seemed vacant for a while now.

They closed the City Centre location last year, and the Meadows Place and South Shepherd locations this year. There are still ten other locations in the Houston area, but the property for one of those locations (Northline) has been put up for sale.

Last week, Artisan's announced it's relocating from its longtime home at 3201 Louisiana St to 5745 Westheimer Rd.

Their former home in the The Mix @ Midtown is already on the market for lease. According to leasing materials for the Mix @ Midtown, Artisans' unit will be available January 2023. So, it's likely the restaurant will close its Midtown location in December or January. Artisans is anticipating debuting its new digs June 2023.

The announcement was shared on its social media platforms. A rendering of the restaurant was also posted.

"We will be relocating to our beautiful new space in the Galleria area in the summer of 2023. We can’t wait to have you join us for cuisine and savoir-faire in our new home!"

This is pretty huge in my opinion, old Jones Coney Island is being demo'd and a new restaurant called Artisan's will replace it. Seems like a pretty huge price tag!

Littwitz Investments Inc. sent out a press release yesterday announcing the sale of the former James Coney Island property at 5745 Westheimer.

"Sold by JC Westheimer LLC, the second property is located at 5745 Westheimer Road in Houston. BA Realty LLC acquired the 1.05-acre property, which is the site of a 5,175-square-foot restaurant building. Artisans Restaurant will relocate to the property — where Texana Builders will construct a new 7,000-square-foot restaurant building — in June of 2023. Doug Freedman of United Equities represented the seller, and David Littwitz represented the buyer."

CultureMap reported on Artisans' upcoming move to 5745 Westheimer. Here are a few details from yesterday's article:

"[Chef Jacques Fox] turned to global design firm Gensler to transform the space into the new Artisans. For the first time, the restaurant will have a patio. In addition, a 10-foot tall rooster (the restaurant’s logo), will greet diners as they enter."

"Other details will address flaws with the current location, such as a verandah over the entrance to facilitate arrivals and departures during rainstorms. One element he’s keeping from the old location is the chef’s table that looks into the kitchen."

Also, brunch service will be available:

"Artisans will make one major change to its offerings when it moves. For the first time, the restaurant will serve brunch."
