Looking at that parkcam, I can't help but think of the furor I started on a long since locked Victory thread when I linked to WFAA's plazacam...and the plaza was empty. Ice rink is packed at 3:20 pm, as well.
Pumapayam
i believe it's open til MLK day.I was around the 12/26, and the security guard mentioned 1/12.Maybe they bumped it up a week, but MLK day makes sense, but it is usually cold throughout February too. They should have kept it at least until Valentines Day weekend.BTW, it looks much smaller in person than the photos reveal. Kinda disappointing. The Great Hizzy!
Unless there are some logistical concerns, Valentine's Day would be a nice grand finale for the rink IMO as well.
TexasVines
it looks like over night someone bumped or repositioned the cam so now it barely catches the west edge of the park and nothing of the ice....it would possibly be interesting if any of the cranes were running....but as of now it is just staring at buildings and a bit of traffic

brian0123
BTW, it looks much smaller in person than the photos reveal. Kinda disappointing. It's still fun to do. Most people in Houston aren't figure skaters or hockey players that need a huge rink to go flying around. My wife and I tried it out last week and had a lot of fun just fumbling around on it. Jeebus
I finally got a chance to walk through the park late one night last week and was VERY impressed. There was a great police presence and NO bums. I spoke with one of the HPD officers there and he said they are assigned there on a rotating shift, so that there are always officers there. kylejack
The General (1926) Train engineer Johnny Gray (Buster Keaton) is turned down when he tries to enlist in the Confederate Army during the American Civil War as his occupation is deemed too important. When his train (The General) is stolen by Union soldiers so that it can be used to attack Confederate forces, only Johnny and his girl Annabelle Lee can save the train and warn the Confederates about an impending attack. Directed by Clyde Bruckman and Buster Keaton. http://app1.kuhf.org...s_id=1250801165 Performing an original new soundtrack for the movie will be the Golden Arm Trio, a group out of Austin. Golden Arm Trio has done some excellent things, like for example they did the soundtrack for A Scanner Darkly, the 2006 Richard Linklater film. This has been a great series. I saw Phantom of the Opera with a new original soundtrack being performed at Discovery Green and it really blew me away with how awesome it was. Amazing how exciting you can make an old silent film with a new soundtrack. I guess what I'm trying to say is DON'T MISS THIS! Tonight at 8. samagon
really neat, I didn't know they employed that much green tech, it is mostly hidden from view. Which is good and bad, I'm glad that it isn't in our faces, saying, look how green we are, we have solar everywhere! But then, because it isn't in your face, most people that utilize that area have no idea about how earth friendly it is.It is a most peaceful spot in the late afternoon with the sun going down behind the buildings and the frogs going crazy.
