Urban Monster
Looks like something is stirring on the property next to Spanish Village on Almeda. It seems like it might include the old restaurant. Also, Localist signs on the fence.

HNathoo
Think this is probably a typo - Steve Rogers bought 4720 Almeda (Spanish Village and adjacent lot) a while ago and has plans to redevelop it.

I think it's a typo too. 4720 Almeda Rd (Spanish Village) is Steve Rogers' property as is the parking lot across the street at 1810 Wentworth St. He also owns the lot next to Spanish Village at 4716 Almeda Rd, as HNathoo noted. Rogers owns Bar 5015 down the street. He is the co-owner of restaurants the Warwick and Rockhouse. He is also has some ownership in Prospect Park (currently involved in a lawsuit with Alife Hospitality about this, similar lawsuit to Turkey Leg where he's accusing them of theft and other issues) and Turkey Leg Hut. He may also ties to Chapman & Kirby. I'm not 100 percent sure. Edited November 15, 2022 by IntheKnowHouston

IntheKnowHouston
Spanish Village is closing at the end of March. It's located in the Third Ward / Museum District at 4720 Almeda Rd. CultureMap reported the news of the Tex-Mex's restaurant's impending closure this morning. A few nuggets from the article: "First slated for closure in 2021, Rogers kept Spanish Village while he worked through redevelopment plans for the property and an adjacent tract of land. Although details on those plans haven’t been made public yet, “the restaurant’s legacy will live on in an upcoming project to be announced at a later date,” according to a release about the closure." https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/iconic-houston-tex-mex-restaurant-and-third-ward-landmark-announces-closing-date/

Some of the initial details were reported by Houston Chronicle last summer. In the posts above is a link to the Houston Chronicle article pertaining to the redevelopment of 4720 Almeda Rd and the adjoining lot at 4716 Almeda Rd. 👇🏾👇🏾👇🏾 On 6/2/2022 at 8:04 PM, j_cuevas713 said: https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/What-should-go-here-Some-Houston-developers-17215645.php Really neat to see the developer use this platform to get community input. From the linked article: "[Steve Roger's] familiar with Almeda Road, which stretches between Third Ward and the Museum District, having had a presence on the street since 2017, when he was one of the founders of Turkey Leg Hut (he has since sold his stake in the business). And he had an idea for its needs when he bought the project, given the lack of food options available in the area. Nonetheless, he found the comments edifying (one resounding piece of feedback: keep the restaurant’s iconic sign). He plans to do so, and to include a coffee shop, a new space for Spanish Village Restaurant and other hospitality projects in the development’s design, which is still in progress." IntheKnowHouston
Plans for 4720 Almeda Rd have not been approved for permitting yet. 4720 Almeda Rd is the site of shuttered Tex-Mex restaurant Spanish Village (4720 Almeda Rd, Suite A). As previously mentioned in this topic, 4720 Almeda and 4716 Almeda Rd will be redeveloped for future retail. The lot at 1810 Wentworth St will likely be used for parking. Below is a screenshot of the plan review inspection report. The screenshot shows the progress made so far during the plan review. In its place, a three-story building which will house another restaurant. Eggheadz is opening at 4720 Almeda Rd. I think it may be a breakfast and brunch-forward restaurant. I don't know who all is involved with the restaurant yet. There is an Instagram for Eggheadz, but the bio has zero details about the eatery's concept. While a domain was registered last month, there is currently no website for the restaurant. As noted in a TDLR architectural barriers project filing and the plan review fee permit, JT Arc Studio is the architect on record. https://www.instagram.com/eggheadz_almeda http://eggheadzhtx.com

The renderings were posted recently to Eggheadz's Instagram. It's hard to tell from the rendering if Eggheadz will occupy the entire first floor or not. It's also hard to tell if this is all one building (though, I'm thinking it is) or if the adjacent lot at 4716 Almeda will extend to single-story building with retail. Perhaps someone with knowledge of this development can provide further insight. As previously noted, JT Arc Studio is designing the 4720 Almeda building (possibly the 4716 Almeda one too). These are the final renderings. I reached out to someone involved with the restaurant who posted these recently on their personal page. As for the existing building at 4720 Almeda being renovated versus demolished, the design team noted demolition plans in documents submitted to the city. Maybe the newer building is designed to look like the existing building. IntheKnowHouston
As I was driving down Almeda yesterday, I noticed what appeared like a black and white tiled sidewalk in front of the former Spanish Village restaurant. Eggheadz is opening at 4720 Almeda Rd. It's a brunch-centric restaurant from Leighton's Hospitality Group. The restaurant group also operates a restaurant nearby named Leighton's. Someone involved with Eggheadz claims renovations are almost complete.
