707-717 Walnut Street: 100-unit Studio Apartments

Very interesting.  I didn't realize that building was vacant.

I imagine on a cool day, it's a nice walk up the hill to the Red Line train, so that's good.  And its proximity to the college makes it a good fit for studio apartments.

Still, I've been assured in other threads on HAIF that nobody lives in that area, and it's a "no-man's-land," so I'm not sure why they don't just tear down the building and replace it with yet another surface parking lot.

they COULD dig a ditch through there to make sure half of downtown doesn't flood....

So this will be I guess technically “mixed-income” housing? (Since looking at the presentation it sounds like some will be market rate)

It’s nice they’ll be saving those buildings and they’ll be getting new life as housing.

This is honestly a miracle. I've been worried about these buildings for a long time. And with Urban Genesis doing it's thing right down the street, this area is going to be even more vibrant than ever.
