editor Posted March 4, 2022 Share Posted March 4, 2022 I went to the rodeo the last few days. I haven't been a fan of rodeos very long. I went to my first rodeo about five years ago, and it seems they fall into three categories for me: Working rodeos, where real farmers and ranchers are there to get serious things done and the carnivals are a nice distraction for their families; show rodeos, where non-farm-and-ranch people go to be entertained; and community rodeos, which are very much like working rodeos, but includes lots of people who haven't seen one another during the growing season can get together to catch up. In my estimation, the HLSR is mostly a working rodeo, with a touch of the other two. Which is good, for me, because I'm all about the animals and don't give fig one about the entertainers. Since almost everyone on the planet uses a telephone to take pictures these days, I was the only non-press person I saw with an actual camera. And for some reason I found it interesting that these people are surrounded by animals that weigh more than my car, but somehow find Instygram more interesting than what's happening around them.
