xsatyr
Now I want them to build a moat around it. More apartment buildings need moats. I'm cool with moats as long as they have retail at water level and it's nautical friendly.

bedmondson
I remember that picture from the Houston Chronicle tropical storm Allison coverage which is about the largest storm you can ever expect. The elevation of the Greystar property is at about the same elevation so if they put any parking lower than ground level it will likely flood once every 50+ years or so. jstigall
Recent progress, I'll get a better one later, about two floors done of the parking garage still. The dilapidated Mango Beach and 'Little Buddy' still standing proud next to it. Edited January 17, 2015 by jstigall

hindesky
I wonder if Crane Guys talk to each other when they are up there. Some of them are pretty close together. Crane Operator Happy Hour.If they are on the same site, yes they do. The jibs may overlap so the trolleys may be in the way of each other depending on what they are doing. They have to let each other know what is going on.

Montrose1100
Finally started on metal work, the stairwell is up a couple of stories nowI really like how the staircase gives you an idea of how big this project is. My only complaint is that the crane peering over the trees on I-10 heading west would be a wonderful spot to have a tall gleeming skyscraper. hindesky
Am I the only one that thinks this is a questionable location? In what way? They will have killer views of downtown and zero chance that something comes along to block those views.
BigFootsSocks
I drive by it a few times a week and no, it's a great location. There's always a lot of people along the trails and next to the baseball fields. It's a short walk to Fitzgeralds and a bunch of bars.

It's a short walk to Fitzgeralds and a bunch of bars.By the time this opens, Fitzgerald's will probably be close to closing shop. I think it's a great location too. I'm actually surprised we didn't hear more vocal opposition from the Woodland Heights community but besides that, close to downtown, right next to all the grocery stores, and next to the long bike trails along the bayou.

curbur
I mean, that still somewhat deters me from wanting to live there because I would like to have a parking garage not in such an obvious flood plain if I could help it.
Nate99
Lower level parking better come with a discount.
tanith27
I'm not sure that first level will be parking. Theres a large stone retaining type wall just outside this picture which is why the water stopped where it did and didn't go in any further. I think this may be patio or promenade type walking environment over to the adjacent kids playground and dog park under the bridge.

mollusk
Unless a right turn lane gets added, this is going to make the westbound Taylor Street exit from the Katy SUCH a joy, particularly in the evenings.
