Amlaham
Multi-story self storage will soon take over another parking lot in downtown. Less than 2 blocks away from the new U-Haul building.
Amlaham
Design firm EDGECOMB & ASSOCIATES, https://www.edgecombarchitects.com Based on their previous self storage buildings, I don't think this one is going to look the best. However, its better than a parking lot and at least covers some of that brink wall from the AT&T building next door

wilcal
Half block of surface parking converted to something else is a win. 8

A surface parking lot has potential to be something decent. This will be a storage unit facility that adds nothing to the community and will be that for decades and decades.

How will the SE Corner of Downtown ever develop losing this half of a lot to storage for the near future? Yeah, it's not the best, but it's also something. There's a lot of nothing in this area. If there wasn't demand for storage, then they would probably have done something else with their $10 million. 5

I agree there will be plenty of blocks to add something significant just give it time.
Luminare
I personally vote for the parking lot right next to that AT&T building. That looks like a good spot for something like this...and more than likely thats not where it will be placed.

mfastx
Jeez, such a long way to go towards developing that area of downtown, still a complete sea of parking lots and empty fields lol.

Those parking lots will get replaced when developers think it is economic to build something. If you replaced all of them with a building over the next 2 eyars, most of the buildings would be empty, as there's not enough demand for the space.
jmitch94
I believe that some of those lots are owned my a Malaysian company that has no plans to sell or develop them unfortunately.

Hopefully the 59 project will increase demand in that area and around MMP.

They couldn't block this building so they used the other portions of the lot.

A lot of people in the real world aren't as critical of architecture as we are on here. Lol I was driving with a friend that was visiting from Atlanta last year and we were on Memorial Dr and she commented that the Windsor highrise apartments were cool looking. I was thinking to myself that's one of the ugliest buildings in Houston 😂 Also had a friend a few years back that said something similar about the Bristol condos in the Galleria area she was visiting from New Jersey.
