Looks like demo of the Women's Center should be starting any day now.  I didn't get a picture, but they had the whole property fenced off when I drove by earlier this afternoon, fencing wasn't there yesterday.

Now they tell us!
Former Houston Area Women's Center HQ sold to California apartment developer

Harris County deed records show a subsidiary of San Diego-based Fairfield Residential purchased the property at 1010 Waugh Drive from the HAWC on Dec. 22. A Fairfield employee confirmed the purchase to the Houston Business Journal, though the company did not immediately respond to requests for comment about its plans for the property.

That said, a filing submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation states Fairfield is planning a 630,000-square-foot high-rise apartment building with a garage at 1010 Waugh. The TDLR filing said the new development is expected to cost $85 million by the time it is completed in 2025...

Love when they put the garage on the bottom levels then build up vs. expanding horizontally.

So there will be three highrises of about the same height and character on that stretch of Waugh - Fairfield Waugh, Modera Waugh and Pearl Rosemont. Should make the Montrose look dense...

Isn't Pearl Rosemont the one in Midtown?

Yes. A block north of Tuam and just east of Genesee.

They might be thinking of that 36-story tower that was proposed on Waugh just north of the intersection with West Gray. Maybe?

Can somebody, for once, make a rendering that shows a new building in context with other buildings? These are nice buildings, but the renderings look naked and Le Corbusier-esque.

Why would a developer want to advertise their opponents buildings?

I just think they'd be much more effectively advertising their own buildings, which inevitably look better in context. Also, proximity to other stuff is a selling point.

You could always snub the details to make the other buildings look blander. But, to me at least, any of those renderings would be much more appealing if it showed a dense neighborhood.

(Not that my broke-ass perspective would be of any consequence to developers, but I doubt I'm alone in this...)

Just as I suspected Fairfield is going to use the little lot between the townhomes and Jack In The Box for their construction trailers. It was part of the purchase of the Women's Houston Center property.
