If they did the demo without the required permits, perhaps a 5 year suspension of all work on the site would be in order. I really dislike people who do stuff like this, trying to avoid dealing with the government and paying the required fees and getting the required plan reviews and inspections.

"Weeks or months will pass before the new space at 4504 Caroline near downtown is fully functional. But interim manager Sandy Weinmann was able to get KPFT broadcasting from Caroline Street on Saturday — a moment of celebration for the commercial-free, listener-supported community radio station."

I am resistant to try and explain why I will miss KPFT in my neighborhood--

I think I have written how demolishing houses and businesses here in Montrose with the same ole same ole boxy structures saddens me haunts me really that so many, many components of my my past are disappearing.

I wonder ( not just for KPFT) if some those iconic " parts of the myth- that together wove Montrose to be Montrose can be salvaged or up cycled?

" Montrose" ...the originalMontrose  might be a myth-- memories evolve and become what we want them to be.  Yelp it was  many many years ago-  No it will never be what it was........still I wonder-do developers ever consider preserving just enough of the place.....just enough....to make it appear that what ever Montrose was is uh... evolving and not just be removed and  demolished? Does that sort of " Outside the box" thought ever seep into the developers minds? And if not.... why not? Isn't there value in advertising new builds as being located within"Montrose" what are those advertisements actually promising? Is Montrose still Montrose?

I am just numb that it is all about the money....not about beginning to preserve  just a little of the myth.....the architecture, the notoriety?  Having a notion to tweak, up-cycle and redesign ; stepping up to embracing unique answers to odd existing buildings----deciding to save  a small bit of what is left? There are absolutely no developers that regard those places, are what that made  Montrose- Montrose....?  What could be sadder? Soon Montrose becomes just another ubiquitous suburb like all the others.

yup I am sad to see KPFT go.

i hear you...Montrose played a huge part in all my young adult life and beyond...and yet, i understand why this is all happening, i just wish it wasn't. i miss the Montrose that had all the cool music and book stores in old homes and all the bars and shops...and i was lucky enough to be in studio at KPFT once when my best friends band Blue October was new and playing the Westheimer Street/Art Festival. They were being interviewed about the festival and their first cd that had just been released. I feel lucky to have lived my life during Montrose's heyday but thankful we still have Brasil, Empire Cafe and Agora and really that whole section of Westheimer to remind me of what Montrose once was! (at least!)

I was hoping to get info on what was going to be built

As @hindesky posted, there is a topic about it. He speculated townhomes, but wasn't certain. That was a week or two ago. You even commented about it in the same post.
