He was a great one. Not everyone will be drawn to his rural nostalgia, but he could appreciate an urban life chronicler like Sig Byrd, and was apparently the only other writer at the Post who got along with Byrd. His fame also seems never to have gone to his head, based on what people say who met him in public.
