iah77
Omg, would be amazing if they built this. I just bought a small lot down the street. It's so empty right now. Edited September 26, 2020 by iah77
pablog
Beautiful design, especially incorporating the old building with the new. Very classy and well done
HNathoo
I can’t imagine this going through. The same group is being foreclosed on their blodgett project.
rechlin
That is so cool. Houston needs more creative reuse like this. I sure hope it is built as rendered!
hindesky
I'm going to assume this gentleman has acquired this plat, Chris Senegal. He has been purchasing land in the 5th Ward for redevelopment. https://buytheblock.com/campaign/buying-the-block-in-historic-5th-ward-houston

This is what's on his website? Affordable Housing it looks like Future Project Site and Rendering - The MOD The Site. 5.3 Acre church campus near downtown Houston will be converted to a 290 Unit Workforce Housing development in Partnership with the Houston Housing Authority. The original stone sanctuary was built in 1947.

houstontexasjack
Goodness, the interest rate on the loan for what I’m guessing is the purchase of this property is an eye watering 11.99%: Edit: I think financing a purchase with a hard money loan does not bode well for this development. This company (Deccan Development) already lost the land for the Chelsea to foreclosure back in 2021, even though they still list the project on their website. hindesky
Some info I found about the architect of the original church, I don't see it mentioned here but he seemed to specialize in churches. https://www.houstontx.gov/planning/HistoricPres/landmarks/09L214_St_John_2222_Gray.pdf https://pleasantgroveway.wixsite.com/pleasantgroveway/about This Plat sign was across the street in a big empty concrete lot. I wonder if the church will move here if the MOD Project goes thru.
