Triton
Hi all, was wondering if anyone had schematics of the Hempstead Rd rebuild near 11th street. They are clearly rebuilding the rail road system overhead. The only thing I can find it from TXDOT but has no schematics that I can find: https://www.txdot.gov/inside-txdot/projects/studies/houston/hempstead-road.html https://communityimpact.com/houston/heights-river-oaks-montrose/transportation/2019/11/10/transportation-update-txdot-makes-progress-on-hempstead-road-reconstruction/ Anything would be great!

I wish they would have redone the intersection down below. People constantly have to cross all the lanes just to make a u-turn to go north... very dangerous most of the time. baalManche
Saw an article in Houston Chronicle about Hempstead Highway but it is focused on the portion on the other side of 610 all the way to 99. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/transportation/article/TxDOT-takes-tolls-out-of-Hempstead-Highway-plans-15568502.php
wilcal
I'm kind of stunned why they would build a highway so close to another highway.
cspwal
That's kind of Houston TxDot's thing, building highways
BigFootsSocks
I had assumed this would be revisited eventually. They even put in entrance and exit ramps onto/from 610 that lead to nowhere (yet) that are clearly for the Hempstead Highway.

Plus there's so many businesses along this road. Seems like such a waste, just build an elevated route above the current HOV. Where is the high speed rail supposed to go again? skooljunkie
While I agree it’s kind of ridiculous to consider building a toll road here already, 290 inside the beltway also serves as the connector to the 249 corridor via 8. Also, it wouldn’t surprise me if one day there’s a Westpark-like toll road down Spencer Rd (FM 529)—that would connect nicely to a Hempstead toll road. The Southwest side is served by Westpark Toll, Southwest Frwy., and Fort Bend Pkwy. whereas this quadrant only has 290 to funnel into Loop 610. Ugh, but geez...more concrete. droxford
Will the new road include a bike path? Residents of Timbergrove are only a mile north of Memorial Park but there's no safe way to bike there. That railroad underpass is a deathtrap to any biker.
TacoDog
All lanes on Hempstead at 12th are now open after 6 months of no workers present, maybe the whole project is complete? I saw some workers on 11th this week but I don't go down that way.
