There is a mistake in their listing. It refers to the Kroger as the “east end Kroger” instead of “Kombat Kroger.”

I mean, I like Empire all right, but if we're going to dream surely we can aim higher than that...

Any kind of cafe here would be really awesome. If you're going to take down Empire like that, at least let us know what you think is better.

What is it you want from Empire? Their cakes? I very rarely want cake, so I honestly haven't been to Empire in years.

I'd prefer something more like Honeymoon/Boomtown, or an East End Pondicheri.

Or another Guadalupana. Or Southside. Oh man, or a Vietnamese place with a strong breakfast focus and more diverse coffee options. Double Trouble, except it transitions to wine instead of cocktails. Like a Light Years vibe but also breakfast. Maybe a mini Weights & Measures. A really, really good kolache shop with a real coffee program. A real bagel shop.

What would really be best would be something new - something unique to the neighborhood that draws people in, rather than just replicates something already available a few miles away.

Or Pondicheri. I want another Pondicheri so bad.

for me, it's more the atmosphere that Empire has.

their cake (made by take the cake, if anyone was curious) really is great, and I enjoy the food.

if we were wishing coffee shops into the space, Southside Espresso is the best in Houston.

while it's my opinion that they are the best espresso in town, it is a fact that they don't get as high on the 'top 10' list that others like Boomtown get because they don't advertise enough with the publications that do 'top 10' lists.

Empire could update their menu, but other than that, Boomtown is just "fresh", modern decor, and located at the corner of cool and coolsville.

Personally I'd like to see an Agora-vibe place open up. Slightly artsy, chill, and can take it from day to evening.

Agreed - something cool and unique would be ideal. If it had to be a chain, I'd want Local Foods.

Boomtown Heights was once a spelunker's paradise! It felt like taking respite in a cave! The gray, textured walls, the pervasive damp, the dim lighting, the lingering smell of smoldering cigars next door.

A cafe would be great. Or an ice house!!

An ice house would be a good fit for an old gas station like this, but I’m thinking D&W Lounge already has the “ice house demographic” cornered.

(And before you say anything, I love D&W and have been going there for years!)

I can't remember who I was talking to, or maybe it was farther up this thread. but someone had chatted and they are asking a lot for this space, especially for the location, which might be why it's sitting a bit empty. I wonder if their update might also include a lower PSF cost?

anyway, if I had the ability, this would be an awesome place for a pizza/coffee type thing.
