Parking downtown & midtown

I kept searching for this on mobile but it looks like search isn't exactly working 100% so please let me know if this thread exists already.

I noticed all the signs now say 3 hour max Monday through Saturday. Didn't they used to read free after 6pm? Is anyone aware of a changing to parking in these areas?

Downtown managment district says it's still free after 6 pm

The meters accept cash, credit cards and pay-by-phone; hourly prices vary depending on location. Meters are FREE after 6 pm Monday-Saturday and all day Sunday

City of Houston website still says that too

Question: When are parking meters enforced?
Answer: Parking meters are  enforced Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except where pay station or posted signs indicate otherwise. Parking meters are not enforced on Official City Holidays.

That's exactly what I saw online too, with the hope that this was still the latest info on parking downtown. I could have sworn the signs actually had designated times on them along with the 3 hrs max. Perhaps not!

Thanks cspwal.

I don't recall ever seeing signage that said parking is free after 6:00

The old school parking meters had a message to that effect inside the little window that showed how much time was left.  The new meters just won't accept payment.
