JuiceLand is opening a second Houston location at 1340 Westheimer in Montrose.

From Houstonia in April:

Rumor has it there may be a second Juiceland opening in Houston. The health-minded Austin import, which debuted its first Houston outpost in the Heights last year, may be expanding to Montrose. Keep an eye out for cold-pressed juices and acai bowls to possibly touchdown at 1340 Westheimer Road.

Yes that is correct. Looks like a nice little coffee spot. They also replaced one of the main windows so they could fully open up that side of the store during the day.

Below is a 2021 Instagram post by Bobby Heugel regarding Cherryhurst Center. The retail strip center is located at 1336-1340 Westheimer Rd. Located in the center are:

  • Catbirds - 1336 Westheimer Rd
  • Craft Creamery - 1338 Westheimer Rd, Suite B
  • Silverlust - 1338 Westheimer Rd, Suite C
  • Juiceland - 1338 Westheimer Rd, Suite D

In 2019, Justin Yu and I along with some of my partners at Anvil bought the historic “Cherryhurst Center” at 1340 Westheimer. We didn’t have any firm intentions, but we were trying to diversify our interests in the area. The building was built in 1935, as were many of the adjacent homes in the Cherryhurst area of Montrose. Initially, it was a drugstore (which I can’t find any info about) before being divided into 4 suites.

These days, its housed Catbirds for over two decades...

Recently, we signed a lease with Craft Creamery to take the space next door to Catbirds that was abandoned by Kiwi Creamery when they immediately returned to New Zealand at the onset of the outbreak in March. Craft Creamery is owned by longtime Houston Chef Steve Marques, who is cranking out some of Houston’s best ice creams (now available at Anvil too).

Sliverlust Jewelry is next door to Craft Creamery and has been in business since 1984. Herschel’s store is one the remaining retail businesses that reflect Montrose’s creative past along Westheimer. They have an extremely devoted following.

Finally, Juiceland opened in in 2017 on the corner. They’ve done an excellent job of pivoting to an emphasis on to-gos throughout all of this, and I know our crew frequently pops in often before work.

Prior to being Catbirds, Et Vous which later renamed itself Cherryhurst Wine Bar was a bar in the same space. There was 42nd Street & Times Square, a sunglasses and costume jewelry shop, and Texas Tanning (which claimed to have the largest tanning beds in Texas). There was also Flat Earth, which was a record store. And finally, Appearances, owned by Richard Lynn who offered clothing that he described as “not too trendy”.

We love this building, especially its original tin ceiling inside throughout. We are grateful to have our tenants.

This is old news, but I am posting this here because there isn't a post about it in this topic: Catbirds, the neighborhood bar at 1336 Westheimer closed at the end of July.

CultureMap reports the bar is reopening this fall under new management:

"When [Shelly] Wilburn informed Heugel of her intention to close, he purchased the bar’s equipment and the rights to the Catbirds name... While Heugel has the legal right to reopen the bar as Catbirds, he hasn’t made a final decision about whether to do so."

Craft Creamery is closing its doors at 1338 Westheimer Rd, Ste B.  Their last of service in Cherryhurst Center is Sunday, according to a post on their Instagram today.

The scoop shop is partnering with Sweet Bribery in the Heights to form Sweet Bribery by Craft Creamery. There you'll find Craft Creamery's "cult favorites, like Peanut Butter Stracciatella, Miso Caramel, Bastani, and more."

CultureMap provides an update on Catbirds in an article published yesterday:

  • Sometime between now and Thanksgiving Bobby Heugel and his business partner Peter Jahnke will welcome patrons to Catbirds.

  • After finalizing the purchase, Heugel and Jahnke have spent time cleaning the bar up, giving it a fresh coat of paint, and securing the necessary permits to reopen under their ownership. Notably, they didn’t change much. For example, the new paint is the same color as the old paint. Rotting wood on the patio has been replaced. The patio lights have been changed from white to pink, but they’re hanging from the same lines as before.
