Long Sing Supermarket is on the market. It's a favorite of Houston chefs and James Beard winners Chis Shepherd and Justin Yu.

The 8,260 SF property at 2017 Walker was listed last week on Loopnet . The original listing was taken down marketing it as a great tract for a boutique hotel, restaurant or retail. The flyer is still available:

There isn't anything new pertaining to 2017 Walker St since this is likely being demolished for the Interstate 45 expansion project. Still, if anyone wanted to know, LAM Properties purchased this property in 2020.

LAM Properties also purchased the other parcels on this block. The properties include:

  • 801 Chartres
  • 815 Chartres
  • 2019 Walker St
  • 2012 Rusk St

Last summer, Houston Chronicle published a feature on Old Chinatown and the I-45 expansion. The article highlighted Long Sing Supermarket at 2017 Walker St. It also discussed the On Leong Chinese Merchants Association which was located on the same block at 801 Chartres St.

An excerpt from the article:

There were ghosts in EaDo before the Interstate 45 rebuild was announced, but up to that point, Long Sing Supermarket had stood strong. Mimi and Cho Woo watched for decades as other business owners packed up for Bellaire Boulevard, but they continued hawking specialty Asian groceries and some of the best Chinese barbecue in Houston until 2017, when they could hold out no longer.

Their supermarket laid directly in the project’s footprint — on Walker between Chartres and St. Emanuel Streets — along with almost everything else in Houston’s original Chinatown.

Prior to Long Sing Supermarket, 2017 Walker St was home to The Bo Bo Lang Theater.  Below is an archived photo of the theater included in the article.
