Is this the same place that I, perhaps mistakenly, called the River Walk Cafe?? Just south of the old sound waves?

<EDIT: it appears that it is. glad to see it opening again.>

We're looking at lots of glass, which will make it look very high-tech.

I dont care for this statement. Glass can be used to create a "high-tech"-like look but "lots of glass" does not make it "high-tech"ish.

For some reason, I actually like the rendering. There's just something about it that makes it look like it would stand out.

I think it will look nice in its location...

Always glad to see any high-rise go up around town, expecially residential condos, and 12 stories +...

Does anyone know how pre-construction sales are going on this project?

i ride by this a few times daily on my bicycle. i have never seen anyone inside

(pitching the project with those fancy visual aids in there). i do see graffiti being

painted over in a timely manner though.

montrose blvd should have a "coalition" to broaden sidewalks, increase lighting and so on. the area between allen parkway and binz/bissonnett can become a great pedestrian zone. add light rail down richmond and the museum district to westheimer just gets hotter.

The rendering looks fanastic. It's about time we see some architectural/artistic achievement in this century. It looks unlike anything I've ever seen.

quite a gamble shutting down the river cafe...

my original thread is gone but it was concerning

the montrose rumor that he was building it to

fund horror films... he does like things of that

nature. :P

no pun intended, right?:lol: :lol

Riparian, get it?

You set 'em up, I'll knock 'em down!

:lol::lol::lol:

Good times.

Dal, thanks for a good laugh.

The name of this project reminds me of the name of an epidemic or computer virus, not a building. This "development" is a joke IMHO that never stood a chance.

The Riparian. Is it just me? Because I immediately think of farting when I hear of this project.

Is this still going to be built? - I havent' seen too much action around the place lately....

The old River Cafe, which was their marketing HQ, is now for lease. I have been taking that as a sure fire sign that the project busted. Frankly, I think no one out there wanted to say "I am going to live at The Riparian" no matter how cool the place was.

It seems like The Riparian high rise condos on Montrose is now a dead deal.

I don't know much more than that, but I trust that is enough.

Did they pull the sign down?

I talked with one of the real estate people representing the group.

It is dead. I am not sure what they have to do to pull the listings from HAR, but I would bet that is not top of their list.

The River Cafe is up for demolition according to Swamplot -

http://swamplot.com/...ort-swept-away/

At one point, I lived two blocks from that restaurant and never once noticed it. I walked by it all the time too. If it's slated for demolition, does that mean something will be done with the property? I can't imagine anyone would spend the money to tear that place down even if it was unsafe. It's only a single story building, it wouldn't really hurt anyone even if it collapsed. Something must be going on.

not necessarily. i've seen demolitions happen to get property taxes down.

Good point. I guess it could also be to get the hobos out of the neighborhood.

Streetwalkers, sure. But remember, as I wrote earlier, I once lived two blocks from this joint. There used to be hobos who'd visit the apartment Dumpster daily, looking for glass and aluminum and other recyclables the residents (I being chief among the lazy) were obviously too busy to sort. I would assume those guys had to live somewhere, and where better than an empty building? According to the photos on that one other thread, the River Cafe beats the crap out of living in the Savoy (and it's a helluva lot closer).

In the last couple days, the building that housed the River Cafe (Montrose & Marshall) was demolished. Does anyone know what is coming next? Have any permits been filed with the city??

I know they planned the midrise there several years ago, but that fell through. It shocked me to drive down the street and see that it was gone!

It sucks because they shut down the restaurant to build the midrise and then the midrise seems to have died. Such a waste.

This was supposed to be pretty impressive when it was annouced, and had good legs for a while like the Turnberry Tower.

May I suggest a topic merge?

Update: Looks like Lauren already mention this las week per Swamplot on said thread.

I agree, but I can't imagine they would have demolished the building if they didn't already have development plans for the land.

It happens once in a while. Empty buildings are a liability.

so they've put up the thick plastic material held up by small wooden spikes that i frequently see at construction sites around this particular site. does this mean anything, or is it too early to tell?

^I wonder if it is erosion-control related (I've seen that stuff sit on empty lots until it pretty much eroded away!)

Maybe something more will be set up in the coming days though..

Woah. That's different. Doesn't look like anything I've seen in this city. Kinda cool though.
