see thats now how I read it. Great find btw, but what I read from that is that its "immediately adjacent" to the existing hotel. My guess it will go in the parking lot between the hotel and s braeswood blvd. The skybridge will connect across s braeswood from there. Could be wrong.

I think ekdrm  is correct. It says clearly on the east side of South Braeswood which is the location of the radiology bldg. with the white roof just north of the garage.

Remember this photo is oriented with south to the top and east is on the left.

Per the RFQ, you are correct:

New hotel tower immediately adjacent to...the existing...hotel

Pedestrian bridge...that will connect the hotel to the parking garage located on the east side of S Braeswood. (the garage is on the east side, not the new tower)

Additional bridge...from the hotel to garage 17 immediately south.

 

So the new hotel is next to the existing one, with a pedestrian bridge connecting to the rectangular garage across the street and there is the possibility of a tie-in with the matching pink garage next door.

I believe this to be the case just by literally reading the RFQ. It also makes the most sense. I don't know why you would build a tower of the same brand hotel across the street when you already have the existing on the other side. However, with that being said, I'm going to side with the info pointed out by @ekdrm2d1 because its the most solid data we have until a site plan is presented. I also have that on the map right now.

Then a glass tent roof could be built in that future phase to cover the oldest wing's rooftop and create a lofty Jack and the Beanstalk playground garden like a cross between Cockrell Butterfly Center and the STL Missouri City Museum

Would then be a big draw for visitors staying at the Ronald McDonald House too...

U. T. M. D. Anderson Cancer Center:

Expand Rotary House International Hotel- Amendment of the current Capital Improvement Program to increase total project cost; revise funding sources; approval of design development; appropriation of funds and authorization of expenditure; and resolution regarding parity debt.

Recommendation:
The Chancellor concurs in the recommendation of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs, the Executive Vice Chancellor for Business Affairs, and the institutional president that the U. T. System Board of Regents approve the recommendations for the Expand Rotary House International Hotel project at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center as follows:
a. amend the current Capital Improvement Program (CIP) to increase the total project cost from $83,500,000 to $112,300,000;
b. revise funding sources to include Hospital Revenues;
c. approve design development plans;
d. appropriate funds and authorize expenditure of $112,300,000 with funding of $79,300,000 from Revenue Financing System (RFS) Bond Proceeds, $20,000,000 from Auxiliary Enterprises Balances, and $13,000,000 from Hospital revenues.


Project Description:
The Jesse H. Jones Rotary House International Hotel was constructed in 1992 to provide lodging and accommodations for patients undergoing treatment at U. T. M. D. Anderson in the Texas Medical Center. The proposed project involves the expansion of the hotel to provide an additional 180 guest rooms and suites, with the construction of a 12-story wing immediately adjacent to and interconnected with the hotel. The project also involves renovating space within the existing hotel to improve the amenities, including the kitchen and dining services areas, to meet the needs of the increased guest population following the expansion. The renovations and  upgrade to life safety systems will necessitate the removal of seven existing guest rooms and suites from service and will result in 7,300 gross square feet of shell space for future finish out for amenity areas and a net increase of 173 guest rooms and suites. Upon completion of the project, the hotel is expected to have a total of 495 guest rooms and suites. The proposed increase in funding is due in part to the design and construction of an elevated pedestrian walkway. The walkway will be adjacent to but not directly connected to the Rotary House Hotel to interconnect U. T. M. D. Anderson's Braeswood Parking Garage to the balance of the institution's elevated pedestrian walkway system. The walkway is being constructed as an extension of the existing elevated pedestrian walkway system for use predominantly by faculty and staff to access the Braeswood Parking Garage. Other increases are attributed to construction price market fluctuations.

Not a subscriber so I can't see the whole Houston Business Journal story.

Is Gilbane still the CM for this?  Also, I know Arquitectonica did the conceptual design, but I doubt they are the AOR.

TMC hotel serving MD Anderson Cancer Center patients to receive additional funds for expansion  Nov 22, 2023

Rotary House International Hotel, which provides a place for cancer patients to stay while receiving treatment at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will soon undergo a major expansion to increase its capacity by 55%.

The University of Texas System Board of Regents unanimously approved a measure to increase the expansion's budget to $112.3 million, citing rising construction costs and the addition of an elevated pedestrian walkway.

Rotary House International Hotel, which is located at 1600 Holcombe Blvd. in the Texas Medical Center, is owned by the UT System but is operated by Maryland-based Marriott International Inc. (Nasdaq: MAR).

Dr. Peter Pisters, president of MD Anderson Cancer Center, told the board of regents during a Nov. 15 meeting in Austin that the hotel has the highest occupancy rate of any hotel in Marriott’s global portfolio.

By adding rooms, Pisters said Rotary House will be better able to serve the additional patients and families receiving treatment following MD Anderson’s own $668 million expansion in the TMC.

“We’re seeking to expand this to enable us to accommodate the increased number of patients and the families that will be coming as we expand our Texas Medical Center campus over the years ahead,” Pisters said.

The hotel expansion project was originally approved in 2020 and was added to the UT System’s capital improvement program last year with an estimated cost of $83.5 million.

The expansion of Rotary House International Hotel will include the addition of a new 12-story wing attached to the existing building. In all, 180 additional guest rooms and suites will be added, according to a board of regents agenda for the meeting.

The project will also involve renovating the existing hotel to improve its amenities, including upgrades to the kitchen and dining services areas to serve the additional guests staying at the hotel following the expansion.

The renovations will require the hotel to lose seven existing guest rooms. However, the hotel will gain 7,300 square feet of shell space that will be used for future amenity areas.

Upon completion of the project, the hotel is expected to have a total of 495 guest rooms and suites.

The new pedestrian walkway will be adjacent to, but not directly attached to, the hotel and will provide greater access to an MD Anderson parking garage. The walkway is being constructed as an extension of the existing elevated pedestrian walkway system to allow faculty and staff to access the parking garage without having to cross six lanes of traffic, Pisters said.

The board of regents did not say when the project is expected to break ground or who will be overseeing its construction. The Houston Business Journal has reached out for additional information.

Rotary House International Hotel was built in 1992 and was last renovated in 2007. As part of the 2007 renovation, a 10-floor wing was added, providing 155 additional guest rooms.
