IntheKnowHouston
A food truck park is going in here. It's called Houston Grub Park and is planned for the surface parking area of the former Sam's Club at 1615 South Loop W, across from NRG Stadium and the Astrodome. It's part of the BayouTech Hub / BayouTech Park project. The posted renderings previously shared above depicts upcycled shipping containers and possibly food trucks. The leasing brochure lists the following amenity: Container/food truck park with food & beverage outlets This is likely part of that planned project. Houston Grub Park was announced yesterday. It's a project from a group most locals know as the Houston Black Service Chamber. The group has several Black Service Chambers in various metro cities in the US, which promotes majority black-owned businesses. The group also launched an app similar to Yelp called Hungry for the Culture. It connects people to majority black-owned restaurants and food trucks in various cities. Construction of the park will start soon. From the Houston Black Service Chamber yesterday: Over the next four weeks, you will see the construction of the park take place. Fencing, tents, landscaping, our offices, and of course the food trucks. https://houstongrubpark.com https://instagram.com/houstongrubpark Edited May 23, 2021 by IntheKnowHouston

Fencing, tents, landscaping, our offices, and of course the food trucks. https://houstongrubpark.com https://instagram.com/houstongrubpark More about Houston Grub Park, 1615 S Loop W, from the Black Service Chamber: There are some distinct differences between HGP and other parks, the most noticeable being location. HGP is not tucked away behind any structure, it is centrally located and easily viewable from 610. The goal was to find a place that brought and sustained good energy. We believe this location does just that. We wanted the park to be a place where members could meet friends for great food while being casually dressed. You can sit under one of our tents or you can bring your own chairs so you can sit near your vehicle and talk with friends for hours. We are a family-friendly park that is also excellent for tailgating. We are an extremely short walk to the NRG stadium. We are also an excellent location to tailgate for Astros games. We are right on the rail line. The size of the park (over 30 trucks and 16 vendor tents) along with 300 parking spots makes connecting with friends a breeze. HGP will also have a truck (container) dedicated to the sale of alcohol with no minimums or auto-gratuity added to your bill. Again, you can sit under one of our tents or “tailgate” with your friends after receiving your order. *We prohibit the consumption of alcohol not purchased at the park. THE DETAILS OF THE PARK The Entrance Upon entering you will notice multiple areas to scan QR codes. This allows you to see the layout of the park and where to find certain trucks. It also includes a layout of vendor booths, which has some of the most talented vendors in the city. Our staff will also wear t-shirts with QR codes, so you are never more than a few steps from getting detailed information about the park, trucks, and vendors. Truck and Vendor Profiles HoustonGrubPark.com will have up-to-date information on food trucks and vendors. Each will get a profile with the details of their cuisine, products, price points, and link to their online ordering system (if applicable). Profiles also include links to social media, reviews, and YouTube videos. Customer Service Booth The HGP customer service booth is always open. We want customers to know we are here to help resolve issues in the moment. If a customer has a problem, we will solve it immediately. Customers will not leave the park unhappy. Cross Promotion Marketing The Black Service Chamber is dedicated to the growth of Black business. We will continue this mission by cross-promoting non-restaurant businesses. With every order from a vendor at the HGP, customers will receive a promotional item (print or sample) from a local black-owned business. The item is placed in the to-go bag in a nonintrusive way and allows the customer to view it when time permits.

The Black Service Chamber has several large private Facebook groups dedicated to majority black-owned businesses in US metro cities. Someone in the Houston group shared a couple of images & linked to the listing on Transwestern. The admin, who also heads the Black Service Chamber, removed them. He asserted the renderings weren't an accurate portrayal of Houston Grub Park, despite the person citing it's a preliminary mock-up of a food park imagined for BayouTech Park in promotional materials. So, the food park may possibly have a different design altogether.

hindesky
Houston’s Newest Food Truck Park Will Highlight Black-Owned Restaurants Houston Grub Park officially opens this weekend with a rotating line-up of trucks serving everything from giant egg rolls to cocktails by Brittanie Shey@brittanieshey Jul 21, 2021, 12:10pm CDT A brand new food truck park that aims to showcase Houston’s black-owned mobile eateries will open this weekend just south of NRG Stadium. Houston Grub Park, a project from the Black Service Chamber, will open this Saturday, July 24, at 4 p.m. The park will be located at 1615 South Loop West, just south of the Loop from NRG Park and the Astrodome. BSC is an organization that helps highlight and promote Black business owners in Houston. The group is also behind Hungry for the Culture, a smartphone app that acts as a global database for Black-owned restaurants. The park will host about 30 trucks. Perhaps most notable is Trap Kitchen, a hugely popular West Coast food truck that is launching its first Houston location with the park’s opening. That restaurant, called Trap Kitchen Habatchi, focuses on Asian-inspired Southern food cooked on a hibachi grill. The park will also host a number of local trucks, including Rosalyn’s Hot Chicken, Stewart Brotha’s BBQ, and Saucy Nosh, which serves giant egg rolls stuffed with Southern sides like crawfish étouffée and Caribbean-style chicken. The park will also include a dedicated bar station serving beer and other alcoholic drinks. Houston Grub Park, which is located in a former Sam’s Club lot, will offer plenty of parking, plus more than 1,500 square feet of shade with fans and misting systems, organizers say. It will also be family friendly. Diners will be able to order from each individual food truck via an app that will show estimated pick-up time, making it easier for people to plan their visit. There will also be a dedicated customer service booth. The organizers say they are aiming for a tailgate-like feel, a low-cost place where people can meet up for a night out. They also tout the park’s walking distance to NRG Stadium and the light rail, making it a central hub for several other Houston activities and festivals, like Astros games, concerts, and the Houston Rodeo. Once it launches this weekend, Houston Grub Park will be open Thursdays through Sundays. Highrise Tower
Houston Grub Park opens to highlight Black-owned food trucks https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/07/30/houston-grub-park-black-owned-food-trucks.html The food truck park is owned by the Black Service Chamber, a community of individuals who like to focus on connectivity through digital platforms. One of those online platforms is the Houston Black Owned Restaurants group on Facebook, which reaches 148,000 members. About 75% to 80% of the 25 food trucks at Houston Grub Park will be Black-owned, and the remainder will be diversified, said Christopher Bush, the director of the Black Service Chamber and the Houston Grub Park. Nearly all of the trucks sold out of food the first weekend they were open, Bush said. “It was an overwhelming response,” he said. Currently, the park is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Hours are limited due to the capacity for food storage on the trucks, Bush said. Going forward, the park likely will stay open later, probably toward 10 p.m.

The relocation isn't because of enough business, it was busy during It's hours of operations on the weekends, especially Saturdays and Sundays. The owner of the food park didn't divulge details about the relocation in their Facebook group. Reading between the lines of what was disclosed, it seems the owner wasn't able to implement a lot of things he wanted to make the food truck park better for both the vendors and visitors. So he and the property owner ended whatever agreement was in place. The new location (wherever that may be) will provide room for the changes and improvements the owner of the park wants. 3
