Pack those arterial nooks and crannies with some dessert within walking distance at future Voodoo Doughnuts! Yes. https://www.virtualbx.com/construction-preview/houston-planning-commission-oks-ottos-bbq-catering-project/ Quote Houston (Harris County) – The Planning Commission approved plans to make more pedestrian friendly the proposed development of a new Otto’s BBQ & Catering. Otto’s BBQ & Hamburgers, a Houston area institution since 1951, is in the process of building its newest location along the Washington Avenue corridor north of Hyde Park. The project site is bounded by Durham Drive, Lillian Street and Sandman Street. Luke’s Icehouse, recently demolished, was the former occupant of the half block, which is also across Lillian from Fuego’s Saloon. The location will consolidate Otto’s catering kitchen onto a single site and serve downtown and the west side. An Otto’s BBQ restaurant will be in an adjacent space. The owner sought a variance to reduce the building setback from 25 feet to 10 feet along Durham and from 10 feet to 5 along Lillian.

hindesky
This project seems to have taken forever, but it looks like they are starting to make some progress. Parking lot is being paved, restaurant equipment is being delivered. And it's not gonna be called Otto's anymore, it's now going to be "Doc's Smokehouse, Fine Steaks and Bar". Otto's doesn't mean anything for the crowd that frequents Washington Ave even though the name has some history in Houston.

IntheKnowHouston
Rosland's, the elevated bar & grill at 903 Durham St, closed recently. Opening in its place is local Tex-Mex restaurant Spanish Flowers. This is why unless it's a shopping center, tower, office building, residential, or mixed-use only the address should be considered as the topic title. Single tenancy buildings or properties leased to restaurants, bars, and other retail/service businesses have a high turnover. Just a thought. hindesky
Took years to build and shut down quickly, the road construction certainly didn't help.

Opening in its place is local Tex-Mex restaurant Spanish Flowers. Tex-Mex and Mexican restaurant Spanish Flowers opened last week in the Washington Corridor area. The homegrown eatery replaces Rosland's at 903 Durham St. CultureMap published a blurb about it yesterday: "Tex-Mex staple Spanish Flowers has opened its third Houston-area location near Washington Avenue. The restaurant has claimed the short-lived Rosland's Grill & Bar space at 903 Durham Dr. Best known for its original location on North Main St., Spanish Flowers serves Tex-Mex staples like enchiladas, tamales, and nachos. Its all-day breakfast menu is particularly popular. Prior to the pandemic, its 24-7 operating hours meant that everyone from late revelers to Lady Gaga might stop by for a meal. Currently, it's only 24 hours Friday-Sunday, but that still offers plenty of opportunities to satisfy late night fajitas cravings. Changes to the Durham location are mostly cosmetic." https://houston.culturemap.com/news/restaurants-bars/restaurant-openings-fungs-kitchen-bungalow-downtown-dining-spanish-flowers-durham/
