HOUSTON – (Realty News Report) – A 13-story office tower is being planned by the Crown Castle company on the Katy Freeway, according to a document filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

The 420,000-SF tower is being designed by the Kirsksey architecture firm.

The building, which has an estimated construction cost of $55 million, will break ground in August and be completed in early 2021.

The project will be located on a 4.2-acre site on the north side of the Katy Freeway, not far from the Ikea store. The property is east of Chimney Rock and west of Antoine Drive.

Crown Castle, a major cell phone tower company, current has its offices at 1220 Augusta Drive on the western edge  of the Galleria area.

The new podium-style building will have office space above a parking garage.

You say ayyyyy, I say moo.

Kirksey=mediocre

eh. Again like a lot of firms here I would say "consistent" which is different from mediocre. Kirksey does consistent, and reliable work. They definitely don't turn heads, but would say they are a solid firm, as far as a corporate firm goes.

A design competition was held last year for 8020 Katy Fwy. Initial plans also called for a hotel component.

I also wouldn't put to much stock into things found on this site. I remember once looking to do some freelance work by doing little competitions on here, but its extremely rare that anything from here actually becomes a project. Most on that site are simply looking for design ideas and possible best approaches. Would take anything that you find there with a large grain of salt.

  • The title was changed to 8020 Katy Fwy: 13-Story Office Building

So about halfway up, now.

I was thinking the other day how many decent sized companies we have HQ'd here which are not oil companies, and Crown Castle is a good example. It's also a good sign they chose a building like this instead of sprawling out in a low rise like you'd see in DFW.
