A target or neighborhood walmart makes too much sense. Either one would do crazy numbers, the montrose target and the lower heights/upper washington target both sometimes run out of baby wipes, some fruit and veggies, and cleaning products. Just crazy.

I think this is a welcome addition to midtown. Right there by that chipotle and pho saigon, that area gets alot of foot traffic, this one should do fine.

I'm not so sure about a Neighborhood Wal-Mart.  A few years ago, Wal-Mart started closing those.  It also had a bad habit of getting into "up and coming" neighborhoods by promising not to sell liquor.  Then once the doors opened, applying for a liquor license.

A CityTarget would be great.  Put one in downtown, too.  The CityTargets on Nicollet Mall in Minneapolis and State Street in Chicago both do a metric buttload of business, are assets to their neighborhoods, and help bring in high-rise residential developments.

Honestly another grocery store would be nice, especially now that Fiesta is gone. Nobody should have to shop at Randall's.

I agree.
At least with Whole Foods the quality might justify the additional expense, but Randall's manages to combine mediocre products and selection with significantly higher prices than, say, Kroger.
Midtown has lost businesses that added to its livability (a dry cleaner, Art On Main art supply store), Sears, the fire clearance store) but offhand, I can't think of anything that doesn't involve prepared food or beverages that has taken their place.

FWIW, Target dropped the CityTarget branding several years ago (August 2015 to be precise).  They are all Target.

This may have something to do with the large standing homeless population, which would swarm around a Target the same way they used to swarm around Sears. National retailers are also increasingly wary of shoplifting.

Finally tried it. I ordered in store for take home and didn't look inside or on the screen but I thought I ordered one slider medium heat and kale slaw. When I got home I had 1 chicken tender and no slaw, 100% my fault for not checking. If that was actually medium heat it was hot enough for me. It was good though, will go back.

I got the reaper. It was, uh, somethin.

The Medium was plenty hot enough for me. I like hot food but not so hot I'm crying. I once went to a Thai food restaurant in Webster and mistakenly got the hot fish meal, poor waitress ended up just leaving the whole water pitcher with me after me requesting constant water refills. How much water or milk did you have to drink?

Reminds me of this .......

A coffee shop will be one of the beverage tenants within food hall Conservatory at 606 Dennis St. The name of the shop is the Coffee Garden.

Website is here:

https://thecoffeegarden.com

Conservatory is part of the Crossing at Midtown mixed-used development. I think it may open this year, possibly  before fall.

While not related to the Crossing at Midtown, some here may want to know Conservatory may have plans of branching out beyond Houston. According to Company of Nomads' website, the food hall is looking at two HBCU campuses: Spelman College and Prairie View A&M University.

I think an Egyptian dining concept is one of tenants for food hall Conservatory, located at the Crossing at Midtown, 606 Dennis St.

A recent entity filing shows a concept possibly named Cairo Kitchen for Conservatory. Cairo Kitchen comes from chef Rafik who previously operated Torshi, an Egyptian dining concept at shuttered Rice Village food hall Politan Row.

The Crossing at Midtown will include a dance club named Reset.

From CultureMap this afternoon:

"A group of Houston hospitality veterans are bringing a new dance club to Midtown. Reset will open later this summer in a newly constructed building at 606 Dennis St...Reset occupies the top floor of its building. A 1,200-square-foot, second floor terrace gives revelers a view of the downtown skyline."

Conservatory is part of the Crossing at Midtown mixed-used development at 606 Dennis St.

"The Coffee Garden is a new specialty coffee shop coming soon to Midtown Houston, TX. There will be indoor & outdoor patio seating, a walk-up window, takeout, and curbside pickup."

"Our coffee bar will be at The Crossing at Midtown, in the new Conservatory Food Hall. The Conservatory will feature a variety of unique specialty vendors hand-selected for this project. The 15,000-square-foot space with a 4,000-square-foot garden patio will be next door to Dave's Hot Chicken."

Another food stall / restaurant signed on for Conservatory is 2 Phat Bastard Pies.

Initially operating as Pastry Pals at local farmers markets, 2 Phat Bastard Pies is an Indo-African eatery. Their specialties are mnandi pies, popular in Zimbabwe, but there is also a variety of savory pies on the menu.

Conservatory is opening soon at 606 Dennis St, Suite 1 in the Crossing at Midtown mixed-used development. The food hall comes from Company of Nomads, who originally opened the food hall at 1010 Prairie St in downtown Houston.

I saw an entity a few weeks ago for Sushi Flora. It's possible this could be a sushi concept that will be part of Conservatory food hall in Midtown, 606 Dennis St.

Sushi Flora is a sushi concept from the proprietors of Deer Park Sushi in Deer Park. The food stall / restaurant is opening at Conservatory.

Deep Park Sushi announced the news in a since-deleted post on Facebook and Instagram in June:

"We've been working hard to bring you the best sushi in town, and we're finally ready to reveal our newest addition: SUSHI FLORA, the newest sushi bar to enter Midtown. The upscale sushi bar will be female-focused and bring an artistic concept to the sushi scene."

"We're bringing you a new way to enjoy your favorite sushi dishes at any time of day. We'll be serving lunch, dinner, and late night! We'll also be offering Sunday brunch so you can get your fill with our amazing rolls."

"It is time for Midtown to breathe new life into the sushi scene and that's exactly what we're doing. We've teamed up with some of the most talented chefs in town to bring you an upscale experience with a focus on truly creative sushi dishes."

The Deer Park restaurant also operates Meshiko at Railway Heights Market in the Railway Heights development. Meshiko is a Japanese and Mexican fusion sushi eatery within the food hall.

Pre Covid, I think this same group announced plans to open an Asian street food court in the old Greensheets Building on Main and McGowen. Is that concept still out there or is this project taking over for that?

From CultureMap last year:

The original, downtown location of Conservatory originally planned to relocated to Chapman and Kirby in EaDo, but those plans fell through due to the pandemic, as CultureMap reported previously; so, too, did plans to open an Asian Hawker Market in the former Greenstreet building in Midtown (1000 McGowen St.)

Peaky Grinders is slated for Conservatory. The hamburger food stall opened last year at Railway Heights Market, the food hall and market at 8200 Washington Ave. I don't know if this will be a second location or if it's relocating from Railway Heights.

The Midtown location is listed as coming soon in Peaky Grinder's Instagram bio. However, it doesn't specify Conservatory.

Conservatory's new location is expected to open in 2023. It's one of several tenants at the Crossing at Midtown, located at 606 Dennis St.
