Ciel, the restaurant and lounge coming to 4411 San Felipe, posted an Instagram story and updated its IG bio yesterday. Both the stories and bio provide more insight into what kind of concept this is going to be. From their Instagram story: "We're inspired by the festive restaurants and lounges more commonly found in Western Europe. Boasting energetic vibes with live music in the evenings." "At Ciel, you'll soon be able to indulge in our sophisticated menu featuring modern Japanese and French cuisine complemented by craft cocktails with curated champagne and wine selections." So, it sounds like Ciel will be to 4411 San Felipe as Bisou is to River Oaks District. https://cielhtx.com https://instagram.com/cielhtx

toxtethogrady
I was a member of a private club in Dallas back in the 1980s. Got to witness a rather heated dinner conversation one evening between a husband and wife about who was being unfaithful to whom...
Skyboxdweller
My experience with private dining rooms in NY and Florida is that when well run the service is more courteous and deferential than what one gets in a restaurant, even if one is a regular customer ; the food is OK, but nothing special and the members like it that way. Like Trump and his taco bowl, they tend to order one or two things and will let their guests know that it is the best thing on the menu. These settings used to work well for business entertaining because the guest can't pick up the check. For someone who isn't going to have their business pick up the initiation fees, monthly dues and the monthly required expenditures for food and beverages, they make no sense. Texasota
It's unfortunate, but this is probably the best neighborhood for this kind of nonsense.
IntheKnowHouston
Papercity reports Ciel, the ground floor restaurant and lounge at 4411 San Felipe, opens in December. Here are several nuggets from yesterday's article: "Co-owner Adel Sadek tapped his own architectural and design firm, Studio Five, to conjure a glamorous St. Tropez vibe for the 8,000-square-foot space." "There’s a decidedly celestial aesthetic...High above diners’ heads is a faux sky adrift with fluffy clouds, with orb-shaped lights reflected against a mirrored ceiling to represent the planets in the night sky. French contemporary artist Philippe Shangti...was commissioned to create a trio of 12-foot paintings of bare women for the dining room, while a six-foot sculpture of Zeus — God of the sky, naturally — is splashed with hand-painted tattoos care of Mexican artist Karla de Lara." https://www.papercitymag.com/restaurants/ciel-restaurant-houston-opening-4411-san-felipe-building-adel-sadek/ Renders included in the article

gene
i don't mind it toooooooooo much but the art work/photographs on that wall are horrendous so hopefully they have something better planned. they need a statue of Mr Clean and that will look like his soap suds/bubbles all swirling around...heck, they could have even painted the floor to look like a toilet bowl!!!! 🤪
Skyboxdweller
It's nice being located next to the Target. You can pick up your head ache medicine before buying an expensive bottle of champagne at le club and getting dizzy breathing in fumes from the hopped up euro-trash sports cars rumbling at a low roar while you wait for the valet attendants to bring your Tesla around. The Rainbow Room on the top of 30 Rock its not.

Sometimes renderings provide an awful depiction of a building or space. After construction is completed, the space or building turns out better than the rendering.
