Digging started.

Everyone ready to watch some old basements get chipped away? :P Hopefully not, but it looked like there were some outlines in the dirt in one of the pics above. Hope for the best, prepare for the worst...

I bet it’s a clean dig.  The foundation for the parking garage can’t be too substantial.  And I doubt there was much of anything on the site before the garage.  Whatever IS there, Hines definitely won’t have the same epic task they had with the Texas Tower prep!!!

There were certainly old storefront buildings on the site before the garage.

Google Earth's 1944 aerial shows about four buildings where the garage was later built.

One- or two-story storefronts wouldn’t have much of a foundation.  Likely they were completely removed during construction of the parking garage.

Those outlines might be the grade beams for the (formerly) existing parking garage.

Unless they had basements, which would likely have just been filled in for the construction of the parking garage.

Agreed, they might be.

^ That first photo is a HAIF wet dream: the destruction of a parking garage to build a 46 floor tower in the background, a 47 floor development going up in the foreground.

Great shot.

Not only a parking garage but one of the ugliest in the city to boot.

Man, ROWDY is everywhere.

@Triton

Today I noticed Rowdy in two places! One on Briar Hollow near San Felipe and the other at Hanover Square on W. Dallas.

Could you please stop giving him attention?  It will only encourage him if he sees this.

Not wasting any time!

Also, on a side note, I know we shouldn't give attention to the vandal, but every time I see the word "Rowdy" I think of Scooby-Doo attempting to say "howdy".

Indeed. This will be a quick transition from demo to under construction.

A car gets 100,000 miles and things can go wrong, how long does this type of equipment last and how do they measure it?

Most machinery like this would be measured in operating hours.

all the machinery has maintenance schedules measured in operating hours, like a lube job at x hours, and a rebuild a Y hours

^^^ and so it begins... WOW!

Thanks gclass for reminding us what this will look like and moving the pic towards the latest of the discussion !  I always appreciate reminders ever so often on this forum, of what exactly a building is planning to look like once complete.  And, it would be great to see it on at least every other page of each discussion.  Thanks again!

Hmmmm... looks like Hines, at least, thinks One Market Square is still a thing (albeit a ghostier thing than the existing buildings).
