I don't know...kinda looks like 4 diamonds on top instead of 5. Looks like they need to make some room up there.

I recall speaking to some folks who worked on the project and this was a common theme brought up.

Probably was a VE item suggested by the GC before design went public!  I’d have loved to be a fly on that wall.

The 4 "diamonds" have been party of Landry's corporate trade dress for years -- Dining. Hospitality. Entertainment. Gaming.

The four diamond design on top of The Post Oak was very intentional, and NOT the result of VE.

I should have added prior to posting that it was a sort of running joke among the architects and engineers who worked on the project.  Sarcasm is hard to decipher (and convey) over the interweb’s sometimes.

Unfortunately sarcasm can't be taught. Its more like a mental condition. In the same way that VE is also, unfortunately, a mental condition.

Gaming...

since there is no casino at The Post Oak maybe this is where Post Oak Poker Club should have relocated!!!! 💡

So is there reason to believe that his project is moving forward aside from the fact that the businesses have closed? The rendering floating around of this project is super old and pretty low quality. If I know Houston, it's been VE and chopped down from 44 stories to 22 -- if it even gets off the ground.

Well, I'm not sure specifically, but if you read the Facebook post from the Poker Club above, they mention that after they move out the building will be torn down/demoed.

I can't imagine they'd demo a property and not having something planned to go up in its place, especially right along the new Post Oak Blvd. Whether or not what we get in its place will look anything like the rendering is yet to be determined. If I had to guess, I'm assuming what we get looks different from what we've seen.

I’d have to disagree.  It seems quite common in Houston to demo buildings and then sit on vacant land without developing immediately.  I assume developers do it for tax purposes.

True. I could very well be wrong, I just feel with all the activity going on in Uptown, all the towers that have gone up the past 3-4 years, and with the projects still under construction/planned, it just would be very disappointing to see a developer sit in such a prime location, especially with the Blvd project wrapping up the next 2 years.

@gclass I’ve revised your post as there is really no need to quote an entire article that’s unrelated to this development.

From another article: Chief Art Acevedo says illegal gambling cannot be allowed to continue because "it drives organized crime and fuels other criminal activity."

Over looking the club from the lofts for the past couple years, I don't think there was ever any kind of incident at the place. Never saw a cop, never heard of an incident, never heard or saw a patron acting inappropriately. Prior to it being the poker club, it was Moe's and they'd play loud music until late at night. The poker club was a much better neighbor. I know they're doing this under the disguise of 'money laundering' but you can literally do that with any business and there hasn't been any proof that even occurred here.

Yeah the Mob was pretty quiet and said to be good neighbors back in the day as well. Its just if you really tried to mess with them or cheat them then they would break your skull in half. Just because a "neighbor" is quiet doesn't make them good neighbors, it just makes them quiet ones.

What do you expect? This is America’s grandest BLVD in the making

Honestly, I know this is a joke, but I've been impressed with what I've seen thus far. Walked down this a few times. Miles ahead better than what it used to be. Especially the paving stones. Reminds me of streets I would walk in Europe. Really wished we got more into paving stones instead of bare concrete.

I think Timoric meant it as fact, and not a joke. It does have the potential to grow into a grand boulevard. Might be twenty years.

I've been saying this for years but I think the real transformation will come at the Post Oak Shopping Center. This is one of the largest tracks of land in such a centrally located area that if it were to go mixed-use, it would literally be a game changer for this area of Houston.

Im confused. Is this site going to be home to the tower rendered in the previous page, another tower, or something else?

Tower is dead. Not sure what this is going to be but the speculation is some kind of upgraded, higher end strip mall

Yeah I agree...i love what Post Oak Blvd is looking like and as much i wish it was a middle rail line and not a bus line, the trees, sidewalks, lighting and bus stops are looking incredible...

I think in order to make it grand, it's the buildings lining Post Oak that will make that difference...so BLVD place is a good start as are all the nice (and not so nice but hey they are new condo buildings ;) ) condos...i am excited to see what will replace or fill in the huge Ethan Allen center now that they are relocating to Uptown Park and yep, eventually the Dick's Sporting Goods plaza will hopefully will be redone sooner than later. (although please relocate Whole Earth Provisions as i love that place!)

I think the McNair development will be an incredible addition and make the whole length of Post Oak become more complete...oh and yes i know i say it often but my god, someone buy Post Oak Corner and do something with that dang lot!!!!! My OCD hates that corner haha!

Was hoping for a tower of course. Not sure how I feel about this one just yet.

Nice mid-size building. Not everything needs to be a skyscraper.

It matches the BLVD Place development at least...i could see the Poker place relocating to this on the right side once completed...maybe that was their plan all along

The poker place will not be reopening unless its behind bars. They were busted a couple of weeks ago.

There was an article I think in the Chron about how HPD has seized like 13 million from these clubs but basically prosecuted almost no one.

My best guess is the parking structure will face your apartment.

I definitely would have preferred the high-rise, but this is adequate for the area given the design.

At the very least it will be a taller structure then what is currently at the location right now, and it will be consistent will the new construction going up along the blvd.

Agree with you.

One of the tenants in that center told me perhaps four or five years ago that their lease and all the other leases in the center expired in seven years. I don't know if that information is still accurate, but if I'm the Landlord, I'd want to manage the property in that way to expedite redevelopment.
