KimberlySayWhat
Brandon was on Fox 26 last night, shown practicing at MMP and he said he's feeling really good. He said he'll go down to Corpus and pitch a few innings there and see how it goes. I hope he'll be back and healthy. He's so passionate and such an Astros fan himself, being raised in Galveston. I love how he gets all excited while watching from the dugout. I don't think he sits down. But yeah, I love Brandon. I even have a purple Backe 41 T-shirt. KimberlySayWhat
Unbelievable series agains the Smelly Sox again. I cannot believe it! I'm still baffled how they managed to blow such a huge lead on Saturday and again last night. I know they eventually won during the extra innings last night, but still, it would have been so much sweeter and much more exciting if they hadn't gone from 9 to 9 to 9 to 2. Someone had to win in the extra innings. At that point I didn't even care. Still glad they won, but it wasn't fun. Is it typical for Chicago fans to act like filthy, uncivilized, classless animals? I noticed when Willy got a hit late in the game, they booed him. Come on, they've swept the Astros in like the last 6 or 7 game straight counting the WS, he gets a hit and they boo him? Astros fans don't behave that way. One of Chicago's fans had to be escorted out last night for some type of misconduct. I'll never forget last year during the WS when hit Patty Biggio on the back of the head.
skwatra
One of Chicago's fans had to be escorted out last night for some type of misconduct.I'm not defending all Chicago fans by and means, but i will defend that guy. He picked up what he thought was a foul ball. Once he realized that it was actually in play, he dropped it back on the field and covered his head in shame. it was obviously an accident on his part. They ruled it interference, and let Everett keep his triple which he probably would have gotten anyways. no harm done, except for that fact that Chicago could argue that their right fielder had a chance to throw out Everett, the winning run, at third if not for the interference. Though the umps and commentators agree it would have been a triple either way, and Chicago didn't argue the call. and when they booed Taveras maybe they were booing the fact that the run scored, which was Everett, the questionable (to the fans at the time) triple. Trophy Property
That is the same feeling I got. The reason they booed Willy was because they had lost the lead. Typically they are booing there own team at that point. I am not a fan of White Sox fans either, but I did not see much wrong with that booing. The Astros need to get their act together. Playing the Tigers is going to be no easy feat. Lets hope we can take 2 of 3.
KimberlySayWhat
I have to admit I was very irate last night and had gotten my panties in a big bunch over that series. I was noticing every little thing and it was all getting on my nerves. Not feeling good about this upcoming series with Detroit starting tonight, either. emirate25
In my opinion, I don't think the Astros will make it to the World Series this year. I just don't see any good relief pitchers for us as of now.
Highway6
In my opinion, I don't think the Astros will make it to the World Series this year. I just don't see any good relief pitchers for us as of now.Relief pitching isn't our problem. We may not have the supermen bullpen of last year, but they have performed just fine. Our problem is lack of hitting... situational hitting.Roy throws a 1 run, complete game last night.. and loses. We must have easily stranded about a dozen base runners it seems.Even as bad as we have been.. Cinci and St. Louis havent been much better.. as far as divisions go.. we are the weakest link. We could easily make the playoffs still if we get our act together.. but no.. I don't see us advancing to the World Series...Especially since management seems to be focusing on the wrong kind of trades. Yesterday i see on espn that we are tenatively persuing Dontrelle Willis... What is that all about ? The last thing we need right now is adding to our overstocked and pretty damn good rotation. I just don't see any good relief pitchers for us as of now.I don't think that relief pitching is the Astros main problem. We need a good bat or two. If our guys can "step up to the plate" so to speak, or trade for a bat, we can make another run for the WS.
Laurence Simon
In my opinion, I don't think the Astros will make it to the World Series this year. I just don't see any good relief pitchers for us as of now.Aside from Load Em Up Lidge, it's not relief pitching. Gallo's gone. Nieve's looking like a long reliever that's got speed and improving control. Borkowski's a bit shaky, but will improve. Freaky Zeke is gone. They'll drop or trade off one more when Backe's back. (And they have Hirsch, Sampson, and Barzilla available when Roger blows out his hamstring for good or Andy Pettite throws himself on Roger's grill to end the pain and suffering)Qualls, Wheeler, Springer, and Miller have their ugly days, but they're not as shaky as the start of the season. It's hitting. It's all hitting.Garner gave Ensberg, Lane, and Wilson a change to turn things around. Wilson's performed. Ensberg and Lane haven't. How long before they're toast, for crying out loud? December?Ausmus is back to his old habits, giving Munson hope that Ausmus will do fashion shoots full time soon. Everett's worse than Lugo ever was, making Bruntlett look good.I'd think at this point, Gary Gaetti needs to look back and see what's gone wrong. And he either needs to fix it or leave. new major on the block
FYI Celebrity siting at Minute Maid last night, Rene Auberjonois was enjoying the Astros/cardinals game in the diamond club, behind home plate last night. He also attended a number of games here last season. He played Constable Odo in StarTrek: Deep Space Nine, and is one of the leading characters in ABC's Boston Legal, although I cannot remember his name on the show. In fact the only name I do remember is "Denny Crane", probably because William Shatner shouts it out 50 times an episode.
KimberlySayWhat
I heard rapper Paul Wall threw out the first pitch at Monday's game. Saw Sam Malone sitting near home plate the other day on TV. Though only we Houstonians would know him. I noticed Rockets' Tracy McGrady there when Barry Bonds was in town and there was such a big deal about him being one homerun away from tying Babe Ruth. Other frequenters, of course, George 41, Babs and everyone's favorite, Tilman Fertitta. What's funny is the other day I noticed Barbara there without George (he must have been in Connecticut). Usually they leave around the 7th inning. Babs stayed until the end. I guess George likes to go home early and take a nap so she took advantage of his not being there. And then a few months ago Greta Van Susteren was sitting behind home plate with George and Babs. Fun topic, any other celeb sitings at the Astros games? KimberlySayWhat
Brad Lidge blows one promising, hopeful game after another. Get rid of him. I don't really blame Roy Oswalt for the Pooholes homerun. That 10th inning shouldn't have happened in he first place, because the Astros were going to win. Until "Lights Out" came on. Every time the game is going in the Astros' favor and Brad Lidge shows up at the end I think "Oh no". He's become notorious for losing a good lead and sending them into extra innings which, most of the time, they end up losing. Trade Lidge for some fresh blood. skwatra
So we have a really good chance of going to the playoffsI wouldn't say we have a really good chance. lets just say we have a chance. the cards finish with the brewers (and giants if necessary). and they're at home. we don't exactly play the pirates well, and no comment on the braves. but we can do it, we basically need to win at least 5 out of 6, if we can't sweep them both. why did they do a coin toss if we're tied at the end? we won the season series with the cards... dalparadise
Some basic rules of baseball, proven over the past few seasons:- If there are games left to be played, the Astros are still in the race.- Don't throw to Sir Albert, regardless of the situation. He is the only person alive who can probably hit a walk-off homer, down 5 runs.- If there's a game on ESPN, there's an 85% chance it's NY-Boston.- NY and Boston play each other 75 games each season -- it's the only matchup America cares about- The Cubs will begin their "September Slide" a week earlier every year. This year, they started it on June 6th. Next year it'll begin at the end of May.- If Roger Clemens is pitching, his ERA will be lower than the price of a gallon of gas, but higher than his run support.- A team will slide into the playoffs unnoticed (last year's Astros, this year's Tigers or Twins) and wreak havok.- The Texas Rangers will realize that pitching over offense wins games, but do nothing about it.- The Yankees will find a way to pay more in salaries than they did last year.- Seattle will complain about their national following being low, because they play on the west coast.- The Giants, Angels, A's and Dodgers will continue to wonder what Seattle is talking about.- The Padres won't.- The Pirates will stink.- Somebody's girlfriend at some ballpark will say, "I didn't even know Tampa had a team."- He'll say, "I thought it was a typo."- The Angels will change their name to something that embraces more of the LA basin, in order to gain a larger fan base...or less, if they start getting the thugs from Long Beach down in Anaheim.- Current leading contender is "The Los Angeles and Orange County part known as Anaheim, west of the 5, but not counting Santa Ana, because they're getting too scuzzy Angels.- The AL will have home field advantage in in the WS- San Antonio will come "this close" to landing an MLB team, then switch their sights, unsuccessfully, to the NFL. The Cards have one more against the Padres tonight, then four against the Brewers, plus a make-up game against the Giants. The Astros have two more against the Pirates, and three against the Braves. I never thought I'd ever say this, but GO BREWERS!! It would still take a MIRACLE to make it to the post-season, but if this happens, it could be the biggest comeback in Astros history. Let's hope...
