bookey23
Dang, I thought they were going to start building something across the street from El Tiempo. Anyone know what's going on with that lot? They tore down a structure well over a year ago, but nothing has come of it.
trymahjong
I drove by again.........not sure what's being built. But I post complaint about graffiti to 3-1-1 you can see how far that got.......... Maybe though this. Could be the beginning of the 20' designation of bike lane that Councilwoman Kamin spoke of last year. Does anyone know if the lots the city cleans up are owned by the city or are they owned by a private entity? trymahjong
I notice a similar big pile of dig up earth at corner of Taft and Hawthorne. Puzzling.....

My understanding is, both. The city maintains its property, and if private property becomes grossly overgrown the city (supposedly) comes in and trims the offending vegetation. I believe they charge the landowner, either by a separate billing or adding the bill to the property taxes. If someone has more accurate information, feel free to correct me. hindesky
I just drove over those cuts in the road, they are going to be the inductive loops for the traffic signals. The drilling near the sidewalks are for the electric lines and thus the mounds of dirt. There will also be a controller on the side of the road. https://diamondtraffic.com/technicaldescription/124

I think you're right. The signal upgrades might be for bike detection and bike signals at this intersection.

Yeah when I rode my bike home I had to hope a car would come up behind me to trigger the light because my bike couldn't do it, so I sometimes had to run the light if traffic allowed.

"Who is that skeleton on the bike?" "That's Hindesky, a car never came along to trigger the signals, so he never got a green light"😁 1

That probably wouldn't work these days since bicycles aren't made with much metal anymore.
trymahjong
Guess the preparation for bike lanes is in process.
004n063
Wait I seem to have missed something. Bike lanes on Westheimer? Anybody got details?
trymahjong
With the new proposal for lower Westheimer to go from 4 lanes down to 3- designated bike lanes seem unlikely. I remember, District C had a list of things that could be done low cost and relatively quickly inside district ..... Bike lane designation painting on Taft, was on that list--painting 15 yards north of intersection. That seems to jive with the new signage. trymahjong
We'll, it seems silly to paint designation bike lines further north till the parking on east side of Taft street up to Avondale is removed---IMO parking on both sides of Taft with a bike lane would be chaos. Yeah, I just meant painted lanes in general. No thanks. I can count on two fingers the number of comfortable painted bike lanes I've ridden in.
