nativehoustonion Posted September 22, 2016 Share Posted September 22, 2016 With all the problems with Chicago they are building a 1,200 foot building with 95 floors. Thousands have died to violence. The city hall is so corrupt, taxes very high. Don't ever go to the south side because you could get shot. It is a very segregated city. They also have pension problems. It's of city of great triumph and civic spirit with arguably the richest architecturally history of any North American City. The Parks and Public spaces are plentiful and first rate. And, the Lake is an amazing asset which is hard to beat. It is spectacular. Yes, the city has many problems...maybe more than it's share. All huge cities have issues that match their size. However, a place is not just measured by it's problems, but how they are offset by its total assets. Certainly there is no need to declare the city dead or unsalvageable. Obviously, it makes more sense to build this building there than here. Frankly, Chicago gets these kind of buildings because it has earned and deserves them. Developers recognize that opportunities exist and exploit them. Honestly, can you see this building fitting in to our city, as it is now? Do you think that any developer would? Hopefully we are working towards it. I believe that we are. But, we are not Chicago just yet. Maybe when we add an additional 3.8m* (basis 2010 census) residents to our metro area, to match what Chicago's got now, we will see towers like The Vista.
