. On Thursday Morning children already registered to attend HISD will be transported to area schools with parents for orientation and to begin classes. Bus shuttles will run from Reliant Arena to the Reliant Center for those in the Reliant Arena and the Astrodome.

. All students will be transported to and from school by regular HISD school buses. School supplies will be provided by donation and available at the schools. No school uniforms are required.

. The City of Houston and Harris County have organized The Katrina Housing Task Force designed to locate permanent housing for surviving families living in shelters: The program is scheduled to be operational as of Thursday, September 8, 2005 and will begin immediately to move families. Partners include:

Harris County Housing Authority

Housing Authority of the City of Houston

Houston Apartment Association

Housing Authority of New Orleans

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development

. The program will match surviving families to necessary housing needs from transitional to permanent housing. The program goals include transitioning approximately 20,000 families into dignified more permanent housing. That includes more than 15,000 families from the Public Housing and Section 8 programs run by the Housing Authority New Orleans.

. The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has created two toll-free hot lines, one to assist displaced Louisiana workers filing Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) claims and another to serve a central number for employers wishing to hire those displaced by Hurricane Katrina. Those numbers respectively are:

. The Louisiana Office of Group Benefits (OGB) has established contact information for State of Louisiana employees displaced by Hurricane Katrina. For information, call

. FEMA will not be conducting a Debit Card program on Thursday, September 8th. Logistical details are still being worked out. FEMA does not want to prematurely set an opening date until all details are finalized.
