April Mod of the Month
April is MODern Month in Texas!
Houston Mod invites you to join us this Sunday, April 24, 2016 for a Mod of the Month open house event from 3 - 5 PM.

Our special MODern Month event takes place in the Memorial area, located about 6 miles west of downtown Houston.  This is an opportunity to preview the soon to be listed for sale Frame-Harper House and help find a new preservation-minded owner.

Thanks to Houston MODern Market for sponsoring this FREE event.

Architect Harwood Taylor, of the firm Neuhaus & Taylor, designed this exciting modern house for the David A. Frame family in 1958 - 1959. Situated high upon a topographically challenging site along the north bank of Buffalo Bayou, this is perhaps Houston's favorite modern house.  The house was restored by its third owner, Dana Harper, with the assistance of Stern and Bucek architects, and has received the Good Brick Award from Preservation Houston.  It has been designated a Protected Landmark by the City of Houston.

Amenities include spectacular terrazzo floored living spaces,  5/6 bedrooms, 5+ baths, guest house, salt water swimming pool, elevator, and expansive terrazo patios. The kitchen has stainless steel counters and European appliances. Walls of glass and soaring ceilings abound making it a great house for entertaining.

Harwood Taylor was born in Dallas in 1927 and raised in Houston, living in River Oaks.  He studied architecture at the University of Houston and University of Texas where he graduated in 1951.  He worked for Houston architect William Floyd until 1953 when he became a registered architect.  In 1955 he and high school classmate J. Victor Neuhaus III became partners.  Their firm was successful and eventually grew to perform international services, renamed 3D/I.    The Houston Mod publication Booming Houston & the Modern House- Residential Architecture of Neuhaus & Taylor, by Ben Koush, has more information and will be available at this event.
