Naviguessor
Well there is the Harrisburg overpass (I assume) that is under construction. But, you point is noted. And it is a real shame that there really is no momentum in the system.
cspwal
Especially since once you stop construction everyone who had gotten experience working on the rail road is let go and they lose their workforce
astros148
I mean seriously for a size if a city like Houston and the lack of train transit you'd think theyd be SOME new construction on a new line. Its so damn shameful
BigFootsSocks
Tell that to Culberson. There needs to be more of this talk directed towards him
astros148
More pressure needs to come from the mayor and one of our senators if they realy cared about houston future. It is just absolutely crazy to think that we have no new lines being developed in 2015 with houston transit system as it is now.
BigFootsSocks
Our mayor cannot do anything when you have a senator putting his thumb on the federal transportation budget specifically for light rail in his district. Parker and other city officials were able to get the Red extension and the Purple and Green lines.

BigFootsSocks
Yes you're right he's a congressman who still has the authority to do what I just said he does. You're trying to argue semantics.
astros148
we can still use non federal money to build the university line, if it went on a referendum now to get it build, itd definitively get voted yes.
BigFootsSocks
Yes but why isn't it being placed on a referendum? Why hasn't it received funding yet?Same answer; Culberson.
astros148
If its private money and you avoid his corridor we could get it build without federal funds

cspwal
It's what I would do if I got a zillion dollars but I really hate driving to the galleria I do think Astros meant city money as opposed to federal funds
BigFootsSocks
There's no way close to a billion dollars can be spent on rail without the rest of the city raising an uproar on why that isn't being spent on roads. There's not a politician, left or right, that would try to push that without killing their career.

astros148
just shows how backwards our city is, these radical commuter ideas are all awesome but their atleast a century away with our citys mindsets.
gmac
That's your opinion. Houston is not a "backwards city" by any means. It is a city that doesn't need a bunch of ants scurrying to a central hive to get business done. It's the wave of the future. If someone decides commuter rail is viable, it will get built.
