(Katy, Texas) October 8, 2015 – The City of Katy is pleased to announce that the Katy Development Authority has taken a key step forward in the development of the Boardwalk District (as shown in the accompanying rendering) by entering into an agreement with Sueba USA Corporation for the development of a 22-acre parcel located adjacent to Katy Mills Mall. Sueba USA Corporation intends to use the parcel to construct a high quality mixed-use development consisting of loft living space, retail and restaurant facilities, and a public plaza. Sueba USA Corporation’s development will be a strong addition to the Boardwalk District which will also include a convention center, hotel, and restaurant row, all anchored by an 89-acre nature park with a central lake, boardwalks, nature preserves, and a 2-mile walking trail system. Construction of the nature park will commence this winter with an anticipated completion and public opening by the end of 2016. Katy Development Authority and Sueba USA Corporation are excited to be joint participants in the construction of the Boardwalk District — a project that will provide Katy residents and visitors an additional first class development to live, work and play.

 

Katy Development Authority was formed by the City of Katy, Texas to promote economic development through public-private partnerships that support the completion of public infrastructure and high quality private development. Sueba USA Corporation is a Houston based real estate development company that is an established leader in the acquisition, development, construction, and management of both residential and commercial real estate.

Looks awesome for Katy; I hope all suburbs get these town centers, I just wish they'd be a little more grandiose in the way The Woodlands Town Center or City Centre were built. I'll believe that retention pond on the SE corner of Katy Mills will look like the above rendering when I see it, but overall this is promising. I'd probably be a tad pissy if I lived in Pin Oak Village or Falcon Point, especially the parts that are going to be adjacent to the district. At least they'll be in close proximity to all the new commercial; imagine, a Vintage Park that you can hop your fence into!

Katy's Boardwalk Project Expeirences Delay

 

 

Construction for the city of Katy's Boardwalk District will be delayed for three months so designs can be redrawn after officials discovered the project's plaza would not provide a view to a planned boardwalk and nature park.

 

City leaders and their development partner, Sueba USA Corp., were dissatisfied with the original design of the $150 million project, which will include living space, retail and restaurant facilities and a public plaza. The development will be anchored by a 2.5-mile boardwalk, a hotel, a 55,000-square-foot convention center and 89-acre nature park on 22 acres near Katy Mills mall.

The original timeline had the park being completed at the end of the year, with construction of the hotel and convention center beginning next year and the entire project completed in three to four years, according to City Administrator Byron Hebert. The delay pushes the first phase of the development into 2017.

Yeah that's kinda funny that they even address that in the interview/article to try to cover up some other issue they ran into. Clearly something else happened; maybe a hotel or investor pulled out that had required an "up-front view" of the Boardwalk decided to pull out, leaving the developer free to open up the park as they saw fit?

Just spitballing ideas, though it's better than the excuse they have.

Apartment complex opens in Katy Boardwalk District mixed-use development

Boardwalk Lofts, the first building within the Katy Boardwalk District, is now open.

Houston-based Sueba USA developed the four-story, 319-unit multifamily project, which broke ground in 2019. The apartment complex offers studio, one-, two- and three-bedroom units from 480 to 2,087 square feet, ranging in rent from $1,090 to $3,025 per month, according to the Boardwalk Lofts website.
