Sanjorade
Looks like part of these apartments will be flanked by Leeland and Bell. Hopefully this means that this is the start of developing all those empty lots on Leeland. I believe the one further east is for sale by the catholic church. The empty part of the lot in which Brother's Taco's sits on is owned by a Best Western franchisor. I was told they don't have any immediate plans to develop, but maybe this will catalyze things. I don't think a hotel makes sense for that lot. What would y'all recommend go there?

thedistrict84
They chopped down all of the trees around the property. There were a few relatively mature trees on both the Polk and Emancipation sides of the property. Since they aren’t currently doing work in the areas where the trees were taken out, it’s unclear why it was done.
Texasota
I wonder if they got permits. If not, the city needs to fine the crap out of them. I don't care how good the project is, developers need to stop taking out mature street trees.

cspwal
East downtown is supposed be a downtown neighborhood, but the East side is still really lacking in pharmacies. If you look at this map, each ring is a 1/2 mile radius from a pharmacy (CVS, Walgreens, Kroger Pharmacy, HEB pharmacy, Randalls pharmacy).

This is one circumstance where regulation actually makes sense, right? Even though the company's that feed electricity are private everyone uses the same wires. Its very cost prohibitive at the moment to motivate companies to move anything or bury anything. This is a situation where design standards and regulation can actually help. Utility companies are notoriously difficult to work with, and at this point place their poles wherever they feel like. On 11/2/2020 at 9:40 AM, cspwal said: Seriously? Now its possible this is just a coordination error, but once one is placed its really difficult to get these companies to move their poles.
thedistrict84
I walked by the building earlier this morning and snapped a quick photo. Saw the earlier photo from @Andrew Ewert, but it looks like the Houston Post letters were behind a facade and are now being removed? The “T” and “H” are gone, and it looks like they’re chiseling away at the “E.” If they are removing them instead of incorporating them into the design, that would be disappointing.
