The Perry's are moving out of the TX Governor's Mansion they've called home for 14 years. On Tuesday, he'll leave the mansion for the last time!

Any thoughts ?

I wonder what kind of architectural changes Abbott is considering for the governor's mansion. Interesting to see if access is improved, etc.

Before it was heavily damaged by fire, they were doing extensive renovations, including ADA compliance, if I recall correctly.

Yep, "Rick, don't let the door hit you on the way out." or "It's about time"

I saw Rick Perry speak to a live audience within the last 3 months. There were a number of things I never liked about Gov. Perry (including the Trans Texas Corridor...and I'm no anti-highway rube), but the man was a great orator.

Disclaimer: This reply is totally tasteless and inappropriate but I can't help myself

Yeah, but was he a good speaker?

Did he ever move back to the Governor's Mansion after the fire (in 2007?). I remember reading that he has spent most of the time living in a rented west-Austin mansion, to the tune of ~$10,000/month at taxpayer expense.

Yes, the Perry's moved back into the Governor's Mansion in July 2012 after all of the renovations & restorations were completed, including the major updates to the historic mansion.

There's a Youtbe video of TX First Lady Anita Perry giving a tour of the mansion & showing the Perry family's dog running up the steps.

PS: the fire happened in June 2008

Perry's defense strategy seems to be brought to us by the letters W, T, and F.

Trying to quash the indictment is pretty routine.  However, appealing the "nahhh, we're not going to throw it out just yet" ruling is a bit odd.  Once appealed, there's pretty much no way that particular issue is going to be resolved any earlier than September or so, followed by maybe going up another level - which will take at least six months more.  Which means the trial can't start.  Now it's primary season and we've got a Presidential candidate fighting an indictment while running.  Sorry, but "that drunk d*** was just out for me" is whiny at best.  In the meantime, without the appeals the case could have been tried, over, done, and forgotten. (unless he gets nailed, which is not a foregone conclusion.  Said the yellow dog Democrat.)

To put it differently, the question "did your mother enjoy baking cookies?" is pretty much always entirely irrelevant (unless you're a guest on the Cooking Channel, perhaps), and thus subject to a good objection if you insist on being pedantic.  But since it's irrelevant, the answer doesn't matter, and just blowing past it takes less time than objecting - no harm, no foul, and whatever the answer was gets forgotten pretty fast.

According to U of H political science professor Richard Murray, he thinks Perry's facing an uphill battle regardless in terms of being a contender for the WH in 2016.
