houstontexasjack
Interesting. I think this will replace that run-down strip center across from the Hampstead on Blodgett. As someone with a direct interest in this neighborhood, here's hoping....wait for it....this place has Ground Floor Retail. :-) Edited January 1, 2015 by houstontexasjack

I wasn't really referring to the developer...but wasn't "The Carter" previously named "The Chelsea?" If not, MY MISTAKE w/ egg all over my face... toxtethogrady
For some reason, no one likes naming things "Chelsea". Though it is one of the poshest districts in London. Edited January 2, 2015 by toxtethogrady

houstontexasjack
http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2015/01/with-falling-oil-prices-museum-district-project.html The project may be delayed (not too surprising), but the article indicates it is to be a "midrise multifamily and retail project atop a podium garage." I am glad to see some retail is part of the plan.
Popular Post Urbannizer
Deccan Development (Sponsor) is constructing a 95-unit, luxury multi-family complex (“The Chelsea”) in Houston, Texas. This project is located in the highly desirable Museum District area, within 2-3 miles of the two major employment hubs, Texas Medical Center and Downtown Houston. The Chelsea fills a need in the Museum District for luxury high-rise apartments that are competitively priced, have a full set of amenities, and have a more exclusive feel compared to older buildings or newer luxury complexes that are much denser. The total project cost is estimated to be $34.5 million, of which $14 million (40.6%) is equity, and $20.5 million (59.4%) is debt. The land has been procured, and pre-development work is well under way. The City of Houston has granted planning pre-development approval; Soil testing and environmental surveys are complete; Architect and Engineering plans are close to completion. Developer expects to break ground in October, 2015. The construction period is 18 months. - See more at: http://crowd-lender.com/CampaignDetails.aspx?campid=14#sthash.d9uO7XeQ.dpuf
Montrose1100
Randal Davis has some competition. I really hope we're looking at the garage, 6 levels looks justified by how narrow it is.
houstontexasjack
Is this different from the proposed "Chelsea at Museum District" off Blodgett? See link below:http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2015/01/with-falling-oil-prices-museum-district-project.htmlIf so, it begs the question as to how many proposed projects can be named 'The Chelsea.' Maybe it's a stand-in, like "Robert Paulson" from Fight Club.
Luminare
Randal Davis has some competition. I really hope we're looking at the garage, 6 levels looks justified by how narrow it is. From how open it is in the view. That definitely looks like the garage. Only in Houston does the garage get its own rendering

houstontexasjack
According to the sponsor, it will be between 1501-1507 Blodgett across from the Hampstead (just got the confirmation). It is one and the same as that other "Chelsea at Museum District" project that was referenced on another forum. Edit: I got another update. Looks as though this will be 8 stories tall and feature a pool deck on the rooftop. It is billed as being swankier than the Hampstead across the street. JoninATX
I'm sure this building would have to be larger than 8 or 9 stories if there planning on building a 6 story parking garage. Otherwise that would be a waste of space, not to mention ugly since it would stick out like a sore thumb.
Popular Post JoninATX
Update, it's now saying it will be 18 stories. BigFootsSocks
I'm beginning to question the need for 6+ floors of parking for only 35 condos, unless everyone that lives there drives a stretch limo.
cspwal
Maybe each condo gets a 3 car garage?
BigFootsSocks
So about 105 spaces, whereas Skyhouse has 500 spaces and a 5 or 6 story garage. I'm pretty sure that "35 condos" number is wrong, or they're banking on public parking as well.
houstontexasjack
Looks like the pool deck is on the 8th floor, and I misinterpreted that to be a rooftop pool. My bad.

Montrose1100
That is one thin building! Could it be slimmer than the Mercer? As far as the building it'self it looks like Turnberry came back to town. More density for the area. Thumbs up.
BigFootsSocks
I'm curious if there's a backside to this, or if they just made on giant wall for a future tower to go up on the north side.
Avossos
I'm curious if there's a backside to this, or if they just made on giant wall for a future tower to go up on the north side. i will go as far as betting - that the backside of this is a complete afterthought. no articulation, definition, or expression. we will be lucky if it even has windows!
houstontexasjack
I'm curious if there's a backside to this, or if they just made on giant wall for a future tower to go up on the north side. There are four townhomes where the foundation has just been poured that will go up along the north side of this. Their view to the south will be....the parking garage of this building. The short answer to your question is that I do not think a tower will go up on the north side of this building in the near future given that other developers are transforming the lots into townhomes.
LarryDierker
And if it's truly 95 units there will surely be some windows on the back side.
htownproud
I'm all for new density and mid/high rises, but this seems out of place. Maybe in 50 years there will be some mid-rises over by Fannin, but right now this seems more out of place than the Ashby High Rise.
houstontexasjack
I live two blocks from this site down on Blodgett and agree that it may look a bit goofy when compared to the structures immediately surrounding it (brand new townhome construction on three sides! I wonder if Urban Living will advertise a high rise is about to go up next door. ) However, with the Southmore going up a few blocks to the south, the Hampstead across the street, and potential midrises going up in Midtown, I think this will blend in with an arc of residential structures stretching south from Downtown into the Museum District and Medical Center.
