Downtown Restaurant And Bar Scene - More Coming

I went during lunch.  They are on their "Sneak Peak" menu prior even to soft opening.  Needless to say, they are still learning here and the food could use a bit of work.  I have been to most of their locations though and they will clean it up.  Good build out of the interior.

I don't know if the district is currrently in a soft opening, or sneak peak, or fully opened but my co-workerd went yesterday. She said the service was terrible. She only ordered a salad but it took 50 minutes for it to arrive. They did comp it for free and included a free coupon for a future meal. I doubt she's returning though, her salad looked pitaful. Bummer, I was hoping this place would be good.

One bad experience shouldn't keep her from going back. The place seems to be doing well.

Dickeys is a chain, so humongous that I saw one in Vacaville, California last week.

I tried it.  I was not poisoned.  I also had no joy.  It is a chain BBQ place that fits in perfectly in suburban hell.

Small world. I'll be in Vacaville in 3 weeks for a wedding. And no I won't be eating at the Dickey's.

Also the last time I was there my friends took me to a Mexican restaurant called Chevy's. I ordered Queso to start and they looked at me cross-eyed. Apparently they don't serve Queso there. I was appalled!

That's odd.  They have it on their menu.

It took this city long enough to realize how much art brings things to life. Very excited that more monies will be distributed to promote artwork throughout the city.

Wait till you see the sculpture going up at Main and Walker.

Its going to be amazing!

Updates on the map I put together.

Morningside Thai is now open, but only for lunch.  They have a cafeteria model, but no interior signage yet indicating what comes with a meal, how much it costs, etc.  I imagine they will work out the kinks soon.

For Lease signs have gone back up in the two club spaces on the 100 block of Main, as well as the Sweeny Building at 301 Main.  Big new rumor from an insider - Benjy's apparently picked up the space where Mia Bella formerly resided.  That would be cool.

I read that that Starbucks was going to be some kind of unique mega-starbucks, some kind of tourist attraction, can anyone who's been inside confirm this?

I was in there a week before opening and unless they added some major finishing touches it wasn't nothing to be called a tourist attraction. Honestly, didn't look as big as they made it Out to be either. I'll be out there this weekend to see.

Heard they are putting in a Lupe Tortilla on the corner of Main & Prairie...across the street from the old El Tiempo.  Can anyone confirm?

Nice to see some restaurants coming back to Main st.

They are working in the space that used to be Georgia's Market to build something out. I'll see if I can read the permits on the window next time I'm over there. Moonshiners is across Main now. They seem to be doing well.

Local favorite adds third steakhouse in the former Strip House space.

The Pappas family needs no introduction in Houston. On November 5, they add a third Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in downtown near Discovery Green and the George R. Brown Convention Center.

Just ordered a ham and egg croissant from the Hilton Starbucks and I paid $7.04 for it!!! Yes, in US American currency. This is the same one they serve at all go their locations. Am I being cheap?

They could charge $10 for that croissant and people would still buy it because there's no competition in the area for the time being.

I call it the Captive Audience Café effect. It exists for people charging in meal expenses to their employers.

You could walk to Ben's Beans or Phoenicia in about 5 minutes, but Joe Salesman doesn't know that, nor does he care.

I am really hoping that Greenstreet doesn't turn into little more than an outdoor food court. While there is nothing wrong with this business and I certainly wish them well, downtown needs dry goods/clothing stores more than anything else at this point. I was hopeful that Greenstreet would bring in some clothing merchants: national chains and independents. How about something like a Stag Provisions?

Anyway, I wish this new waffle place the best. Hopefully the next several leasing announcements are for clothing stores.

Well, they have BCBG and Forever 21. Lids didn't work out.
